I was wondering, is it possible to be able to select a scoped animation from your timeline and add a relative key for those frames to affect all of them? For example at frame 1 to 15 I want my rotate Y to set a key on those keyframes to increase or decrease each separate key selected. That way I can go back and tweak certain areas overall instead of going frame by frame.

I tried to scope the keys and in the table tab select 1-15 and MMB click to change the position, but it sets the same position for every key.

Hi there,

I'm a 3D artist who has been using max for FX for several years now in TVC work and film.

I'm starting to learn Houdini and I was wondering if anybody could recommend any books that can assist me in learning it more quickly? I've been looking at online training videos, but would also like some book reading material, so that I can still learn while not required to be in front of the computer screen all the time.

Thanks!
Hi
I am trying to make a riggid body sphere, that is filled with liquid..
I made the sphere break on floor impact
I want the liquid appear while breaking
Allready tried a small liquid sphere inside a bigger riggid body one,,but the liquid wanders then to the outside of the riggid body sphere while falling...
Is there a way to make the riggid sphere hollow ,to hold the liquid inside?
Or any other method to archive this?
Heya guys,

So i'm a bit stumped on this. I have generated a fracture that has a refracturing occurring. Think "box falling down a cliff face refracturing on each collision".

The problem is the inside and outside grouping keeps redefining themselves and I have shaders changing from interior to exterior faces on each impact.

How can I overcome this?

Hello, so here is what I need help with.

I have a walk sequence that has been copied.

1. What I want is to have the "shift" and "stretch" motionfx to randomize each copy of my geometry from this animation.

2. I'm not sure what expressions go where to control this.

3. After I get a randomized min and max for each copy, I want to be able to have each one follow individual curves.

4. That way I could do a follow path on my obj and have the next copy jump to that curve.

How would I do this, what type of expressions would I use and where?

*I tried to use the rand and fit function for scale in the "stretch" motionfx with .02 range values and I keep receiving .2 values. I need it in the .02 area.

Hey all, I am just picking up and learning houdini. And one of the things thats causing a great amount of frustration is the general camera to move around and look(ie perspective). Where I would like it to be able to rotate around a geo. Rather than rotating at its center point of the camera. Is this changable or is it just a learning curve I will have to assimilate?

Ok, here's what's going on.

1. I have rigged and weighted a character in Houdini.
2. I found that there are a few seams on the character that needs to be welded.
3. I fused them, laid down a rop to read back in the bgeo. I get errors with my capture node. All I did was close a few vertices.

EDIT: I found this, but there is not much to go by as to how I set the nodes up to change the geometry topology.
Hi guys,

I downloaded houdini apprentice just now to play around and learn it. Problem is it is running so bad I can't even do the simplest things. It takes about 1 minute to boot up (from a SSD) and the whole software freezes and becomes unresponsive in about 3-4 minutes of working.

Any idea what I can do to make it run smooth? Literally every other app runs fine except houdini. I am on a i7 920 and Gtx 470 video card running Windows 8. I think I am using the latest drivers for the gfx card.

Thanks for any help.

I know the plugion is for maya, but can you tell me if the plugin LipService w/lbrush from joealter do something that Houdini CAN'T do ?
I am working on a scene where FLIP is poured onto a character. I am wondering why the FLIP particles are doing a couple of things:

*Why the particles are exploding so much in all directions on first contact with the collision geometry? I was told that it may be the little details on the character geometry like the mustache, those pinches between the arms and shoulder, etc. that could be the problem.

*Why the FLIP particles unnaturally wrap around the character geo as it is moving forward. It’s almost as if the FLIP fluids try to meet again after being separated.
I am trying to output the coordinates of the rendering sub-region (selected with the mouse) in mplay. I know they are displayed, but I need to get them sent out to somewhere - a file or terminal, I can manage the rest once I have the numbers somewhere.

I could not do it directly from mplay. I tried using ports via imdisplay, but once I load an image into mplay through imdisplay, the mouse selection does not work any more. I think in later versions, you can use ports directly within mplay, but I do not have access to that. I just wanted to know if getting mplay to output those coordinates is possible at all, or am I chasing a lost cause? All suggestions are appreciated, thanks!

PS. As a last resort, I will try doing the region selection in maya, getting the coordinates and feeding those to Houdini, but I am hoping for a slightly more straightforward solution.
