Hello guys. To be honest I am a total newbie in 3ds max but I really want to learn and I already followed some tutorials.

A while ago, while following a tutorial, i created an object which is a BOX. I made a big one, I tried making another one but I can't, I am thinking if my laptop is lagging or something but I think it doesn't because I can still click the other clickable commands like file, edit etc..

So i closed 3ds max and opened it again, this time I made a cylinder, and I tried making multiple cylinders which happen to be just fine and I also tried to male a box and this time I made one without having a problem.

Again I deleted all of the objects, I made a box, a big one, again, I cannot make another. I tried restarting my laptop, and I tried making a small box and i was able to make many of it.

It seems that my problem is whenever Imake the first object and if its a box, if its the big one,the problem occurs unless its a small one... Im trying to think the problem is the specs of my laptop but I think no, I tried making very very big spheres, teapots, geo spheres and and went fine, except the box. Please help me. I know this is the right forums because I know many people are expert here.

Thank you so much. Keep safe..

I am using 3DS Max 2012 and nitrous viewport and would like to use adaptive degradation in my scene, unfortunately toggling it on and off has no effect.

I have been doing a bit of searching on how to change options for it. The max help says to go into the display performence tap in viewport configuration and change the options there, providing an image displaying what options there should be. The same tab in my max has none of these options though, all that is displayed is a tickbox for "Improve Quality Progressively" and a resolution setting for viewport images and texture quality.

I can't figure out why my options are missing, anyone got any ideas?

I've been able to create some tutorials for my job.
These are targeted for the beginner/intermediate and deal with 2D/3D intergration between Ae and 3dsMax.
I think the techniques are important for any aspiring MoGraph artists to understand and pick up, and it is the 'how' and 'why' that I want to show.
I show one technique for each video. My voice over sounds like it's read (which it is) - I'll work on that

Part 1: Exporting 3D Cameras
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mu2o53S334M

Part 2: Transferring 3D Positions
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QY8tDUy3igs

Please do leave any comments or ideas for future tutorials - thanks

I created a Box, converted it into a Ploy and then duplicated it. I moved the duplicated box slightly to the right so it is placed right besides the original object.

Then, I attached the objects to oneanother, so now it is one object.

However, if I now select two vertices that are quite close to oneanother and hit Weld, nothing happens. No matter how I set the welding distance.

So how can I weld those vertices? Is this being done differently in Max?

Hi all,

I'm very new to 3D max, and I am trying to create an object with a logo on it. I have made the object and put a standard material on it. On one of the faces I wanted to put a logo. To do this I made a logo in Photoshop with an Alpha Layer, and using opacity applied it to the face I wanted, which worked. Trouble is, I want it to show the standard layer behind it rather than just having the rest of the face transparent.

I assume there's a way to layer materials, but I'm really stuck and can't figure it out. Hope that makes sense, I'd really appreciate someone's help figuring it out.

Thank you in advance.

Quietly stalking CGsociety has carried me this far, but now I have a problem I cannot solve. Perhaps I'm searching the wrong terms. When I render my scene, the drape below my screen disappears, leaving only a shadow. This issue is dependent on the placement of a single Photometric Free Light. Its location is above the screen, but if I move it further back in the room, the drape will render correctly.

Can someone help me understand why an overhead light causes my object to disappear?

Other notes:
-using Autodesk 3ds Max Design 2013
-object is a plane
-tried different materials from rendering objects
Hi,

I thought I had a bit of experience with 3d Max, but yesterday I was quite surprised to discover I just could not do something I thought it was very basic.

What I need to do is just to model a simple bookshelf, similar to this one:

http://us.123rf.com/400wm/400/400/r...3d-rendered.jpg

which is essentially a box with several holes. The problem is that I modelled it in SketchUp, where I model most of my stuff, but I want to be able to chamfer it in Max, so I can change the amount of the chamfer in the future if I need it.

The problem is that 3dMax draws diagonal lines on the front (and back) of the bookshelf (I am using Edit.Poly), and this causes problem because I get the chamfer along this diagonal lines too.

Is there a way to tell 3d Max to ignore these diagonal lines (I can't delete them!) and just use the faces as reference?

Thanks!
