Want to make your model more unique?
Want to add more detail or remove detail for a cleaner look?
If you'd like to modify any of the "ingredients" (molecules) in the model, I've now posted links to each of the PDB files you'll need as well as instructions on how to replace the default models with your own ePMV session (or mMaya or bioBlender if you prefer.) Please visit the PDB customization page on or after March 15, 2013.

The image below shows a custom representation of the HIV Spike protein where I've converted the sugars to a stick representation with ePMV instead of the default coarseMolecular Surface.
I'f you'd like to add some real detail and flare (and a viewport challenge) to polish your model in the 11th hour, you can try the new Lipid Bilayers we're posting through the night of March 15 for each of the HIV models. If you're up for a real challenge, you can even add bilayers yourself. Please visit this tutorial page for instructions on accessing or building the lipid bilayer models.
I'm posting tutorials to help people enter the Molecular Viewer Only category at:
http://www.autopack.org/documentati...lecular-viewers

Because of the late notice, there will be very few entries into the is category, so a good chance to win!

What can you do with molecular viewers?

You'll find the molecular viewers fast and fairly friendly... Experienced users can crank out entries with less than one or two hours of work.

Fast realtime viewports. Molecular viewers are optimized to look at tons of biological objects in realtime.
Checkout these three videos I made of PMV and Chimera in action on the HIV 1.4 model:

PMV exploring HIV 1.1 with realtime Screenspace Ambient Occlusion

Chimera loading HIV 1.4

Chimera exploring HIV 1.4 in realtime

Tom Goddard the developer of Chimera has posted an example of a research-talk style movie made with Chimera.

Below I have pasted a couple static images I've made with the viewers, each in less than 10 minutes from start to finish. (Be aware- for the molecular viewer only competition, you must enter a movie... even if only a few frames, as we want users to test the limits of the current animation capabilities of these two packages.)
Post here if you'd like to start a team or join a team to better tackle the autoPACK Visualization Challenge: HIV in Blood Serum!

Due to the ever increasing complexity of the HIV in Blood Serum models and the complexity of the biological subject matter, a team could really benefit from having a biologist on board as a content expert. You can expect a wave of Biologists to join the contest by the end of January when we make some third party announcements and release the molecular viewer versions of autoPACK. Biologists, of course, will also seek to work with artists if they want to expand beyond the molecular-viewer-restricted category of the contest.

In addition, we will post detailed explanations of the model and its importance in Biology in the coming week.

Remember an individual can enter alone, or as part of a team, up to 3 times in each category.

We strongly encourage participants to customize the models to make editorial statements. We are making this process easier every week customize-cellpack-models so although autoPACK provides starting models, modelers and animators can be a valuable addition to your team. Of course, for the video category, sound design and visual effects could go a long way.

You make your own contracts to divvy up the prizes.
