SIGGRAPH is really bad timing for me as its in the middle of the Humble Indie Bundle, and my port of VVVVVV is needing lots of patching! I might need to upload a few patches and need a decent steady net connection.

I know the conference centre has some free wifi, but I'm told it isn't up to much. Any pubs/cafes nearby got a decent connection?
Sorry for the slight off topic:
Probably an easy one for locals: i want to meet somebody at Siggraph and neither of us has been there.
Where is the easiest (not too crowded, unambigious and easiest to find) spot in the convention center to do this?

Hi All,

I wanted to give anybody going to "the big show" a heads-up and tell you all about the speed modeling contests happening in our booth this year.

In addition to a bunch of cool training sessions hosted by ADSK, Luxology and other companies, we will be putting on two FirePro Firedrill speed modeling contests every day in the Experience Zone section of our SIGGRAPH booth. (this is basically a mini-classroom environment with each design station featuring a fast FirePro-powered HP workstation and a 3-monitor Eyefinity setup.)

There will be two speed modeling contests per day. Every winner will get a free FirePro cards and other stuff like free seats of MODO, free CGWorld magazine subscriptions, and the opportunity to have their winning images featured in future global AMD marketing activities - plus some other cool schwag. The prizes will be awarded right there - on-site at the end of 45-minute contest.

-some of the speed modeling contests will require the use of MODO
-some of the speed modeling contests will allow you to use any toolset loaded on the systems including Maya, 3dsMAX, Softimage, Mudbox, etc

Oh, we're also entering people to win a drawing for HP Dreamcolor monitors and a complete HP+FirePro+3 monitor workstatino setup JUST FOR COMING BY AND HANGING OUT for an Experience Zone or Theatre session in our booth.

Signups for the Experience Zone sessions are limited and will be filled on a first-come-first-served basic at the booth.. So you might want to make the AMD booth your first stop when the show floor opens on Tuesday morning... I'm just saying...
