I currently have two computers one, workstation, one node. Both running Win7 64.

Workstation:

AMD Phenom II 6-core 1090T 3.2GHz stock
32GB RAM
GTX580
SSDs

Node:

AMD Bulldozer 8-core 8350FX 4.0GHz stock
16GB RAM
HDDS
older graphics card.

So they're running pretty good at the moment i.e. they work - would it be a no brainer to put together another node of the same spec or am I missing a trick somewhere?

Primarily for Max DBR and network rendering with mr. In future for compositing.

Rekon I could build for about $800-900 bucks using the odd part I have laying around (if I went with regular type PC using AMD but most of my components are pretty old skool.

Hello so a family member unfortunately got into an accident about a year ago and just won a settlement for a decent amount of money. Some of that money is going to me and I wanted to use it to buy an actual computer rig suitable for 3ds max (I will be rendering some large scenes and some animation).

I currently have an alienware desktop and laptop which I use for gaming and some 3dsmax when I'm up for it but I could really enhance the experience with a better computer. So i was wondering if you guys could suggest a computer build/website/anything to help me with this computer.

My approx budget is $5,000 USD but I could go higher if necessary. Please feel free to post your Rig if they are well construed to professional (or close enough) standards.
And its for personal use (hobby)

Hello,

me and my father are trying to turn my old acer pc into something more suitable for 3D modelling.

At my school we use Maya, ,Photoshop, Zbrush, , Mudbox, Houdini, and every once in a while we might use Vegas, After effects and Audacity.
I'm currently using a asus K53s laptop, but I'd like to have a backup PC for when things go wrong.

Right now we plan to use the following hardware:

Motherboard: Asus P8H77-V LE,s1155
Processor: Intel Core i7-3770, s1155
Ram: Corsair ValueSelect DDR3,1600-16GB KIT
Power supply: Corsair TX 650WATT

This is the PC's current graphics card:

nVIDIA GeForce 8300 GS (G86)

Neither of us have any clue on what video card would be best suited for me.
We've collected a small list of graphics cards that fit within our budget:

MSI N650Ti-1GD5V1
Club 3D GeForce GT 640
Club 3D Radeon HD 7750

Could anyone tell us if any of these would suffice?

Thanks!

I'm looking to buy a laptop (my budget is 2500$-3500$) which will operate smoothly with softwares like Maya, After Effects, NUKE..

Not for heavy work like simulations and 4K shots compositing, but the "average" kind of work..

Would love to get some recommendations..
Hi everyone. My studio is about to order 2 of this as our render nodes.

http://www.supermicro.com/products/...S-F617R3-FT.cfm

There are 8 blades. Each blade would be using Duo Xeon Sandy Bridge 8C E5-2660 2.2G 20M 8GT/s QPI.

At first, our vender offered UPS with 3,500W, 5,000VA.

But later, our vender said that wouldn't be enough and offered us 8,000W, 10K VA which doubled the UPS price.

Any suggestion how much power I should really be going for? In the blade's spec says it'd come with a 1620W power supply.

Thanks in advance!

Could someone with 64GB of RAM tell us is it worth of it?
For landscapes and very detailed projects, mainly archiviz.
Do you really use near that?
Or is it adventage in that you can swithces from project to project easily?
3,4 instances of MAX, with average of 10-15GB of RAM?

Is these specifications any good for 3D modeling/sculpting (and gaming) ?
AMD Radeon HD7750 2048MB (2GB) -GRAPHICSCARD
AMD Quad-core X4 750K 4.0GHz (turbo) - Black Edition -CPU
Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600MHz - RAM
Seagate 500GB 7200RPM 32MB - HARDDRIVE
I am now using a samsung R580 laptop with i3,4gb RAM & geforce GT330m and i can sculpt up to polygon level 2 in Mudbox and then it starts lagging, and when i import it to Blender its unworkable ? (ist that a word ? ) anyway will those specs work any good ? its really cheap too only 650 bucks for that.

Hello Folks...
I currently run 1x 2408 Dell and 1x 2410 Dell.
I am doing lighting in maya the colors are way off and this drives me crazy.

Color calibration didnt help much... I used a Spyder 3 and basically hated it....
The only solution I can come up is buying a Mac Display 27 inch and hope it doesnt die soon...
The price is not something I can live with but If thats the only solution then I would do it...

I wonder what is been used by some of you guys to handle similar issue...
Thank you for the reply in advance.

1. The: Refurbished Dell XPS 8500 Desktop, Intel® Core™ i7-3770 3.4GHz
(downside: 1 GB Gt620 graphics but it's PCIe x16 so it's replaceable)

2. Alienware X51 Core i5 3330P (3.0Ghz) 8GB RAM, Gtx 645 (looks like it's PCIe x16)
(downside: don't even know if it's going to work when I get it)

3. Asus Black Desktop: Intel Core i5-3350P Processor 3.1 GHz ( cache)16GB DDR3 RAM 1 TB 7200 rpm Hard DriveWindows 8
(downside: GT640 but with 3GB, not sure if it's PCIe x16

All are around the same price
