Greetings to everybody visiting.
This is my second sketchbook here on CGTalk but most images can no longer be found so
I'm currently hosting them on my own site, which you can visit over at www.TomDeVis.com .
Also feel free to follow me on my Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/DeVisTom .

I'm currently studying traditional oils, which gives me many insights which I hope will be visible in my work.
Hoping you'll enjoy.
Hello!

My name's Madeline, and I'm currently in my junior year of high school. I've always loved doodling and the like, but it's only recently that I've considered it as a serious hobby. I'm taking Drawing 1 at my school and E-Media, but it's a bit slow going because of classes. I'll hopefully remember to post my sketches here.
Hi there! New user although I've known of CG society for many many years. I was actually browsing Google for drawing dynamic poses and figured I'd finally join up to hopefully watch my continued progress as I'm really wanting to improve my art, both digital and traditional. I didn't find an introduction board but maybe I missed it.

Here's some of my most recent work; I tend to draw traditionally first and then scan in to color as drawing on paper seems to be easier for me but I would like to eventually do all digital as the process is relatively faster.

(Still not finished, whoops!)

Some anatomy sketches I referenced from an art book, don't remember who but it wasn't Hogarth as I'm not terribly fond of his style.

Things I hope to improve on here:
- Stylization and characterization
- Anatomy
- Less stiff poses, more dynamic
- Finding my own artistic nuances and fixing them

TIA for all comments and critiques! Hope to get to know you all in time.

Hello I'm new here, thought I'd start off in this forum.
I usually post at another forum too doing weekly anatomy studies. I'm always trying to mix between speedy sketches from 30seconds to longer painting studies maxing at 1hr30mins. Although sometimes I get a bit carried away and carry on painting. I tend to do a lot of timed class modes from PixeLovely.
Here's some studies from recent weeks:
Hi everyone, thought I would join cgsoc and get a thread going, and get into the community too! Little did I know I actually had a account I made ages ago!
Anyways I want to make a career as a character artist, and it has recently come to my attention that my anatomy sucks so i'm gunna work through sculpting the human body first then make my way through animals and other beans.
So to start i'm going with my weakest part and working my way around the body.
So here's a Hand.

Haven't refined it so much, but here it is so far. I appreciate any comments and crits.

To get me drawing more, I'm hopeful to post digital sketches here daily. Daily will most likely mean two sketches a week. I'll mostly be focusing on anatomy and realism, though cartoony stuff might crop up ever so often.

I saw the skull exercise thread floating around, so I took some time to do that to kick this sketchbook off.

Critiques or comments on any of my sketches are appreciated!
After browsing around aimlessly on CGTalk, and stumbling over great articles and tutorials, I've decided to do something I've never really done before; start practicing copying photos. After I've done this for a while, we'll see if I've gotten bored of it (which usually happens) or if I'll move on and do some of the things that have been suggested/recommended to newbies. I know I need to do it, all I have to do is keep motivated and that will be an issue (I know myself after all).

Here are two sketches I've done today together with their references.

Great. I managed to swap their places when I put the references together on the same page. Oh, well. Not much to do, can't be bothered to change.

EDIT: I totally forgot to mention that since I suck so much at copying from photos, pictures, you name it, I've used the grid function and will keep doing so until I feel confident enough to copy without using it.

I went away for some training for a year. I've come back to pick up where I left off. I miss this place and all it's contributors.

My old thread...
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthr...07&page=7&pp=15

Let's see.

Well, a year ago, I left after beginning a new painting. It started as an anatomical/photo study. Then I got ahead of myself.

Photo ref courtesy characterdesigns.com

No planning on my part lead me to a dead end. Since I didn't plan on an actual composition, or costumes I'm left now with a fixed comp and no reference photos. I got excited, what can I say.

My question to you folks is should I leave as is and call it a study or should I pursue my inspirations? I suppose it's all dependent on my skill? I feel challenged to go further but I accept it. Then again, I've learned so much so far and would call this a success for my personal growth.

I guess my real question would be how have you folks dealt with these sorts of situations? Any good stories or lessons learned?

c&c please. Feel free to paint over and show. Thank you.
