Hi everyone,

I've been doing some look development lately, and noticed a problem in my shadow pass. On any rounded surface (i.e. spheres, cylinders, complex shapes), a harsh line gets rendered on the object where the light begins to fall off. This is causing issues with regard to compositing. Please see my attached examples, and download the scene file for yourself. I've tested this with both R13 and R14 and am seeing the problem in both versions. I've also seen this happen with both Area and Shadow Maps, but my example file is using Area shadows.

Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much!
Hi,

Here is an interesting one ... I have a model of a hatch operated by hydraulic arms. I operate them by rotating one door and by means of symmetry and some aim and parent constraints the whole thing moves with the hydraulics.

However, when I render in the editor viewport it renders ok, but if I render to the picture viewer, the hydraulics have not moved and they stay in the initial position and therefor they protrude through the hatch doors.

Is there a setting I'm supposed to turn on or off? What's going on ...?

Thanks

I am using the 2 core 3Delight on a 4 core CPU but C4D R14/CineMan using 3Delights renderdl only shows 10% CPU usage (its like 5% C4D and 5% render and it is soooooo slow).

I can export RIB from C4D and directly use 3Delights renderdl and it renders at around 50% which is correct.

Any ideas?

Hi, I'm new to Vray and just as in regular cinema 4d studio where you can:

Exclude certain objects within light compositions, for instance, you can let light get through a roof, while the roof still being there.

I want to do the same with Vray. I have a Sky object with a VrayCompositing tag and i want to exclude the "roof" object so the light will go through. If i put the roof object in a regular composition tag, it won't work.

Any thoughts??
Thanks
Hi

I'm using vray with cinema R13, and I set a small studio for testing.

But when I add the area lights the scene gets too bright and I can't see the objects and when I turn down the brightness and make a quick render the scene doesn't have enough light.

Here is some images to illustrate whats happening

And I also have Linear workflow unchecked in the Project Settings.

I think I'm missing something but I don't know what.
Thanks for the help.

Heya! I got brought onto a project in C4D that's using the physical renderer, with DOF and motion blur. I have a max/vray background lately and have little experience with the physical renderer.

I'm finding that I have to increase my Sampling Subdivisions have to be very very high in order to get less grain in my renders... This obviously increases the render time significantly. What I've noticed though, is that the reflections contribution to the final image is the source of the grain. At lower, reasonable sampling rates, if I look at the individual passes, the diffuse, the GI, etc are all silky smooth in the motion blurred and DOF'd areas, and its only the reflection that's insanely grainy. This is with R13, I've tried disabling Blurrines of the reflections to see if that was contributing to messing with the sampling of the reflections, but same effect.

Does anyone have any insight or thoughts on this, and how I might be able to smooth out my reflection grain without just cranking the Sampling subdivs in the render settings? I wish there was more control with this renderer, I've been spoiled by VRay's sampler.

Thanks!

I am working on creating a simple rendering solution for Cinema 4d / After Effects work. I've already decided on the mac mini for my solution, it's now just a question of which solution below to choose.

I am debating on the purchase of either two (2) dual core i5 2.5ghz late 2012 mac mini's or a sing quad core i7 2.6ghz. Outside of upgrading the ram on both machines to 16gb, I plan on keeping them stock.

What's the best bang for the buck here in terms of use as a rendering machine(s).
So I just got my hands on Vray for Cinema 4D. I am eager to get it going since it has so many options above and beyond that of the render engines that come stock with Cinema 4D. Problem is I am having a difficult time getting it to achieve. First off it took 1 hour and a few mins to render a simple text scene. I used materials that I had made in C4D and did the conversion on them thru the Vray bridge. From what I can tell it seems to only make a rough idea of what it thinks the material should look like. So for instance I had made a simple black with about 15% reflection value. And a white floor and background. I used a illumination sphere with a value of 400% on the GI generation. I tagged the camera and did compositing on the light sphere. But after the hours wait there is only what appears to be a funny looking black and white image, some reason it looks nothing at all like the standard, or physical renderings I did to compare. Looking to the web now for any ideas on what I may have set incorrectly. Also I am wondering if someone can tell me how to reduce the amount of GI prepasses VRay makes, 4 passes seems excessive for something simple. I have tried a couple different presets but don't see any reductions. Any info really is helpful. Thanks! ^

Hi,

I want to make a very large range of grassland with trees. It's a still image, camera position can't move, and need to export the picture of 12000 pixel. I am using vray.

I have tried,
1. vrmesh of 1*1 grass field, but it is too heavy for my machine to fill the land.
2. Hair, I cut the land by 20 pieces to add it, my scene needs almost 350000 for each piece, and it's still too heavy.
3. vrayFur, the result isn't satisfy, it looks like an oil painting.
4. displacement mat, also looks not well.

The picture is in the attachment.
Dose anyone has a good idea to help me? thanks a lot !
