I am trying to put together a demo reel that will get me a job in the layout department of any studio, but I am a bit lost as to what said reel should look like. I've talk to some people and seem be getting conflicting advice. If anyone could give me some guidance as to what studios look for on a layout artists demo reel I'd be most grateful.

Hello,
I'm new here, but I wanted other CG artists to see what I've been cooking for the past few months. Partly because its cool, and partly because it opens up the possibilities of what we can do as indie artists.

Basically I'm prevising a feature length animated film. Made a few shorts in my day, and now its time to make a feature. This is how I'm doing it! Made these little fun videos. I hope other people can learn from these, and redefine what is possible!
Hi, i was lately thinking about an idea. All my life i have dreamed of becoming a game director. I recently finished 3d animation school but realized that to become a game director you need experience into team leading and game concepting. And i learned that there was no school for game directing, its an in-house promotion that we get through our ranking. A writer or game level designer can become one one day. but i dont want to move my rank up cuz it takes too long. So i had the idea of becoming a movie director hoping that i can use my team leading experience and i can use my art of movie shot to give my next employer of game industry that i have already stories, art and ideas on paper. Would this be convincing enough for them to employ me as a game director with movie directing experience and with all my art ideas on paper from movies already? otherwise said, i wish to make my movies into game again one day! I recently was interested in some movie schools and i realized what job opportunity this field gives us and i read " a career in video games", could this be possible? Can a movie director become a game director?

i know i can become a director of 3d animation movie but what concerns me is game director.
By choosing the path of a movie director rather than moving my rank up will take les time and would make me more rich and famous, and make me more valuable and important at persuading employers to employ me.

Hi,

for a non profit project I am working on I need a filemaker-type software for our shot database - it is important that this software is able to output/export some sort of shareable format, ideally just an html page or similar that we could then upload to our servers for the artists.

I am quite unfamiliar with this technology and everything that our producers are using seems a bit too embedded in the pipeline and slight overkill. We literally just need about 10 datafields, a picture and a possible link to the shot quicktime - and the ability to update the "database" by simply uploading/overwriting what is already there.

Has anybody got any recommendation? This would be for a Windows system if at all possible ...

Thanks!

EDIT: it does not have to be freeware, just to clarify ...

Hi,

I has been trying to use FFDSHOW to encode movies from .jpg files to be used on web pages and on DVDs. So far I just get errors.

My first question is does anyone have a good ffdshow command line (.bat even better) to encode movies?

My second question is, considering FFDshow as the enconder for web oriented movies, what codec and format do you think is best?

Best Regards,
I'm thinking about buying a new SLR, preferably one with HD video. Perhaps the 7D or the D300s. Both of these cameras have HDMI video out, I think.

Is it possible to capture uncompressed video from one of these SLRs via the HDMI to a capture board on a laptop? I have read that this is possible with a pro-sumer HD camcorder.

If possible, what laptop and which capture board? Could I do this with an Apple?

Thanks!

We've been working on this series for a little over a year now and our first episode is up:

http://www.phenomenaseries.com/?p=163

It's a satire of virtually EVERY ghost/paranormal chaser show you can find - a group of inept paranormal investigators get in over their heads with disastrous results. It's a mix of comedy/horror - mostly on the comedy side. And the horror doesn't turn into SAW or anything, so don't worry about gore or anything gratuitous.

It's a little over 16 minutes long, so it's not like a little demo shot, but I'd lilke to know what the CGTalk-folks think.

thanks for viewing, and I hope you like it - there's 6 more coming every 2 weeks.
Hello,

I'd like to show you my Secret Agent entry if you haven't checked it yet. It's called Duncan.

The Secret Services of the United Worlds developped geneticaly modified Secret Agents to fulfill missions throughout the universe. Duncan is one of them.

I entered very late in the challenge, so the film was done in a few days only. I'm not entirely satisfied with the SFX, but then again, I'm not a pro in that field and anyways, Duncan is about... Duncan

The Jury granted me the Honorary Mention for Duncan which makes me extremely proud and at peace with the lack of sleep I had back then! Who need sleeps these days, right?

Here's another opportunity to thank the jury and all the people at CGSociety who made the challenge possible. Such a great synergy, so many great entries in all categories. These challenges are beautiful
