I used a slightly unconventional method of storyboarding for this ad. Decided Photoshop over pens and pencils. What the client saw he liked so I suppose it's about what get's the job done.<br />

Hello,<br />
<br />
currently i'm working on my bachelor thesis which will be an animated short of roughly 1 minute length. It's not my first short but right now i just can't think of a funny story with a good punchline for the short. I'm looking for dry, maybe dark humor. Plus: it has to work without dialogue.<br />
<br />
I was thinking about these two characters: A very nice, cute Monster/Demon and a Girl which is kinda into dark stuff, monsters and whatnot.. i thought: hey there are tons of opportunities for a great short.. but as of now i don't know anything, my head is empty and i've been thinking about this for quite a time.<br />
<br />
The short will be made in 3D and should be around 1 minute or less, but 2 minutes at the most! It is important that there is 1 or 2 sets at the most, like a graveyard or like a small room. Unfortunateley i won't have much time so i can only do so much.<br />

Can you give me some suggestions?<br />
What do you think could happen if a demon or small devil meets a girl, in my case a nice demon and a kind of secluded, nerdy girl, although i wouldn't want to fix myself on that <img src="images/smilies/wink.gif" border="0" alt="" title="" class="inlineimg" /> The crazier, faster and more unexpected, the better.<br />

Hi, ive been currently studying media practice for the past 2 years at uni and have found it mind numbingly boring lol, so in my last year i decided to choose an animation pathway and after some chopping and choosing have come to love 3d and have been playing with Maya, now my skills at Maya are not the best, far from it, Ive tried my best at modeling organics but have found my skills lacking to pull of anything convincing for my final project so have decided about Cyborgs/robots <img src="images/smilies/grin.gif" border="0" alt="" title="" class="inlineimg" /> wooop<br />
         <br />
        here's my dilemma, trying to figure out some type of story/scenario, harder then i thought it would be seeing as no matter what,  i seem to have cyborg ninjas stuck in my head lol<br />
         <br />

         so below im have a few ideas, some better then others, i would like to get input on what you guys think about them and what seems to have better potential .<br />
         <br />
         aaw forgot to say after uni i want to become an environmental artist and cinematic's for games and such, getting into other areas later on,  Ive actually been messing about with udk and find it extremely fascinating to be able to create such beautiful environments<br />
         <br />
         <br />
         and so here comes my ideas:<br />

         <br />
         <u>MAIN STORY IDEA</u><br />
         <br />
          <font color="Red"><font color="Wheat">This is a story about a sweet little robot in a fake metal/mechanical forest/garden</font></font><br />
        <br />
       <font color="Red"><font color="Wheat">  the little robot sees a robotic butterfly fly past and starts to chase the butterfly through the forest/garden, climbing over and through everything just to get to this butterfly that its obsessed with </font></font><br />
        <br />
       <font color="Red"><font color="Wheat">  suddenly the robot comes across a real tree in its path, the tree has a small hole in it that only the butterfly can get through and so the butterfly flies through it and the robot stands there and decodes what to do.</font></font><br />
        <br />
       <font color="Red"><font color="Wheat">  After thinking for a few seconds,  the robots eyes start to glow red and a huge cannon around 4-5x bigger then the robot comes out of the robots back and blows the tree up leaving a huge crater, </font></font><br />
       <font color="Red"><font color="Wheat">  the robot goes back to its sweet self and continues its chase after the butterfly......</font></font><br />
         <br />
         thinking of setting this in the future,  real flowers and life are rare overshadowed by industry and technology and thinking comedy, making the robot sweet to begin with but if anything gets in its way, it gets angry and blows it up <img src="images/smilies/grin.gif" border="0" alt="" title="" class="inlineimg" /><br />
         <br />
         by doing this story it allows me to experiment with animating with a simple form but also allows me to create a really cool style environment.<br />
         <br />
         what do you guys think to his idea? think it has potential, what would and wouldn't you think would work?<br />
         <br />

       That's my main idea, but i have some other simple ideas that i havn't been able to get any foundations down things like....<br />

So Im developing a very experimental concept of using real-time rendering in game engines for production. I intend to apply my concept to Cryengine 2 or 3 sandbox. Now on the technical side I want to fully use these tools to produce a High quality film and use advanced visual effects, and digital filmmaking techniques used in practice today such as matte painting,compositing and various other methods to produce the desired effects without compromising any thing. Ive seen a small test concept showing a very small percentage of how next gen game engines can be a great asset in production. I would love any advice,speculation,or visual effects know how as to a idea on any unseen problems or roadblocks that might occur ahead of time that I might have to address thanks.]]></description>

I am looking for anyone that cna help me. I am working on my final project for my Uni <br />
and I kind of stuck with my idea, any advice<br />

This project would be around 3-4 mins using 3d animation I want comedy and fantasy style<br />
 <br />
The main character would be a little devil who live in the darkness world. One day he relise that he just sees only the darkness and he want something new so he go to the gate which seperate darkness world and world of light. He try to get throught but he can't. When he gives up suddenly the door just open. He hesitate but still move forward. In the world of light is full of beautiful things and kindness angel with a beautiful halo. That's make he really want to have it because it might turn him to be a beautiful angel. He try to steal the halo while the angel try to avoid devil. Finally the devil took the halo and run back to the gate in order to gain safetyness but he can't get to the gate. He turn around and face the angly angel. <br />

Here is my idea of the story which need lots of improvement.<br />
And the problem with this story is, my lecture said the I play with people believe and I need to research more which I already did. But As I research I got very confuse and can't think of anything. Lots' of question came up : Can devil want to be good and can angel be bad or get angly? The end of the story Should they switch the place or they both turn to human. every action of the character need to have reason and meaning.<br />

Any writers have a suggestion on softwares to write a screenplay.  I have many ideas to write about but I don't want to make fatal mistakes on my script and have it thrown in the can. Again this isn't a comparison on which software can pee further...  I'm just looking for an easy to use one and one that helps getting the writer out of the common mental block.<br />

<b>The assignment:</b><br />
For my 2-d Animation class, I have to create a short animation that tells a story. The story doesn’t have to be elaborate; it just has to have a beginning, middle, and end. The entire animation will probably be about 40-60 seconds long to give you an idea of the time frame I’m working with. <br />

One day, a curious boy exploring the woods near his house stumbles upon a small wreckage <i> (illustrated as a small pile of metal scraps and tangled wires). </i> The boy wonders what it is and what business it has in the woods. Being a curious fellow, he brings the pile of scraps home and places it in the corner of his room, next to his robot posters. While he’s sleeping at night, the pile begins to transform.  <br />

When the boy wakes up, the pile is no longer a mound of scraps, but a metallic entity in mid-transformation. The boy jumps out of his bed and watches attentively. The entity slowly begins shaping itself – first an arm, then a head... With each passing moment, the figure becomes more identifiable. <i>(The transformation scene would be very long and exaggerated. I want to make it to look and feel as dramatic as possible; powerful movements, vivid colors, and over-the-top ideas). </i><br />

The dramatic transformation finally finishes and reveals a futuristic-looking robot. The boy can barely contain his excitement while he waits for the robot to do something. Moments pass but the robot remains motionless. More time passes; the boy’s confusion grows. The massive grin on the boy face gradually shrinks. There is a long awkward silence. The boy walks over to the robot and presses the various buttons located on its chest one by one in attempts to get a response, but they all do nothing. The boy gently taps the robot on the shoulder and causes it to fall over with a loud *smash*.<br />

The animation then suddenly cuts to a scene of the boy throwing the robot away in the trash.<br />
<br />
The animation cuts to another scene of a different boy in a junk yard looking at the robot.<br />

<font color="LemonChiffon">I wanted the story to illustrate the feeling you get when you finally get something you’ve wanted for a long time and discover that it's completely different from what you expected. I guess its depressing comedy. The transformation builds the robot up to be something amazing but in actuality is a useless hunk of metal.<br />

I’m unsure if the story really works or not. I feel like it doesn't quite “hit” as hard as I'd like it to.  </font><br />
<br />
I had another idea for the ending of the story where the robot actually does communicate with the boy. After the transformation process, the robot powers up to greet the boy with a slap to the face (or something disrespectful). The robot right off the bat gets on the boy nerves. The scene cuts the boy taking a can full of scraps to the dumpster (suggesting he destroyed it). The last scene would be of another boy finding the scraps somewhere (connecting the end with the beginning).<br />

Hello CGTalkers-<br />

Just getting a discussion started about storyboards. Yes, this started with a little debate between friends.<br />
<br />
What level of storyboarding do you normally see for mid to low budget movies without elaborate shots or much in the way of FX. Trying to think of an example here, so maybe in my head what we're talking about is something akin to (in way of story, stunts, and FX needs) maybe Practical Magic, Medicine Man (yes, I realize these are big budget movies with name casts), Near Dark, Get Carter, Identity, etc.<br />
<br />
NOT the likes of the Underworld series (where almost every shot has an effect), or say Kramer vs. Kramer (pure modern drama - no stunts and effects). I'm talking about movies that have SOME notable stunts, and SOME notable FX.<br />
<br />
Do you see every shot storyboarded in pre-production down to every angle of two people talking at a table, or totally shooting from the hip.<br />
<br />
Does it depend on the director, the producer, the studio wanting to see EVERYTHING they are being asked to pay for, or giving carte blanche to an established director (or producer)?<br />
<br />
Do you see too MUCH storyboarding, or not nearly enough? What do you wish for, for yourselves, in whichever field you're working in for the movie/TV/webisode/home movie industry?<br />
<br />
What are strengths, or weaknesses, you find with either side of the thought?<br />
<br />
What would your advice for storyboarding be for a new company with absolutely no money, trying to make their first feature - yes, that's us. Not even gonna try and hide that one - I'm both looking for advice for us, as well as something for our debate here.<br />
<br />
I'm not entirely sure I'm wording this right, but I hope you get the point, and join in the thread to give your experiences and opinions.<br />
