Title: Introduction to debugging and profiling OpenCL applications with AMD’s GPU tools
This hands-on tutorial session will introduce the participants to two powerful tools for debugging and profiling OpenCL applications: AMD’s gDebugger, the first debugger for OpenCL kernels running on a GPU, and AMD’s APP Profiler, a runtime profiler that gathers GPU performance data from a running OpenCL application. The audience will be taken step by step through a simple OpenCL debug scenario, using the AMD gDEBugger plugin tool for Microsoft’s Visual Studio. We will show how all the standard debug features (step, breakpoints, examine variables) are accessed in this environment – as well as introduce some new debugger features that are unique to this product. We will also present a step by step guide to using the APP Profiler to discover bottlenecks and bugs in an OpenCL application. The audience should leave with an understanding of how to use AMD’s gDEBugger to help find and fix bugs in their OpenCL GPU Kernels, and how to use AMD’s APP Profiler to boost the performance of their OpenCL applications.
