View Full Version : help Maya's wedge or Max's hinge tool

Hi guys!
I'm trying to do the Dreadnought Tutorial in XSI and I have a little problem which I hope you can help me with.

Is there something like maya's wedge faces tool in XSI or Hinge from edge in Max?

And if not, is there any workaround or script I can use for that?

For modelling?
In whatever subcomponent mode you are in, use ref (right click) > pick reference edge in the transform panel on the right. You can now transform around the local coordinates of that component. Works for points, edges, polys, other objects etc.

If you mean something else you might want to explain what it does rather than the name :) I'm not familiar with max, and while I know maya fairly well in some respects, I'd chew my right foot out of a bear trap rather than model in it :)

There's no direct equivalent of Wedge in Softimage. One workaround is:

1. Select polygon.
2. Ctrl+D to duplicate.
3. M for Tweak Component.
4. C for Rotate.
5. Middle-click the edge you want to rotate around.
6. Use the gizmo.
7. When you have finished, select the whole object and Modify > Poly. Mesh > Filter Points to get rid of overlapping points.
