View Full Version : TIP: paint skin weight tool and symmetry

I've done some skinning recently and I've noticed that Paint Skin Weights Tool has reflection option, but it is disabled. Fortunately you can enable it using artAttrSkinPaintCtx command. Here's a simple script that enables reflection:

string $ctx = `currentCtx`;
if ( $ctx != "artAttrSkinContext") {
$ctx = `artAttrSkinPaintCtx`;
setToolTo $ctx;
artAttrSkinPaintCtx -e -rn 1 $ctx;

I haven't done much testing, but it seems to work fine - I hope someone will find it useful.

I'm sorry if someone posted about this feature earlier - I haven't found any similar thread.

You don't need a script for this. Open the tool settings panel and drop down the "stroke" section. Turn reflection on in there.

There's a checkbox for reflection in stroke section, but it is dimmed - I attached a screenshot. Maybe that's version specific - currently I'm using Maya 2012 64Bit on Linux, but I think it looks the same on Windows. Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

tried this today...pretty useful. too bac u cant paint symmetrical bones simultaneously...that would be cool...but this is good for torsos and arms too if u switch the axis
