after emmission, as a voxel moves up the container, is it possible to change its behaviour?

I wish for smoke to rise and then when it hits a certian point, increase swirl drasticly.

If im simply not understanding how the voxels work, please dont hesitate to let me know, i am inexperienced in fx.

you can always put a volume axis field in desired place in container.

hope it helps somehow.

this is my first post here so cheers everybody :)

You can keyframe almost any attribute in Maya, simply set an initial value for your swirl, keyframe it, advance your animation however many frames you need, and then increase and keyframe the swirl value again.

also important to realize that voxels don't move in your container. The voxel is either full or empty and the fluid characteristics are passed from one to the next and so on.

The suggestion of locally influencing fluids with fields works well.
