View Full Version : Houdini Book Idea

06-05-2011, 04:04 PM
While a lot of learning materials have gone on-line, I still think there is a place for books - in particular a Houdini book. I have a couple thoughts on what would make a good book and would like to hear other opinion. Here are just two ideas:

- Art of Houdini: With all the movie imagery and unique organic examples, I think a nice large format book with images and some background about the shot and some how-to build simpler but similar examples would be best served by a book.

- Little book of Houdini: Going the other way, perhaps a light, easy, production-centric book with lots of screen shots. I find step-by-step examples are sometimes best in magazine or book format (vs online).

Anyone working on a book or have an idea? Or is this just best done on-line? Or on-line/print on demand?

Since Houdini's focus is mostly on workflow and achieving results which look good in motion, I think your second idea is better - show readers how to get production-quality results and how to use Houdini to keep control throughout the whole process.

Are there any must have books right now.

I just started learning Houdini and I am taking fxphd classes and am going through sidefx tutorials also.
