ok the next session is up. As usual some objects might be more heavy to model so feel free to add another hour on the more complicated objects or just simplify more.

Btw me and Maskimus were discussing in the previous thread about topics and the future of the concept sessions.
Feel free to add suggestions in here when you post or in that other thread so we can decide where to take things.

As far as the concept session idea from the last post... I like that. You don't have to make it too complicated such as working with the concept forum or anything. I think you could do something like post a picture from google of a door handle. Then everyone models from that photo. Everyone can see how each person did it, look at wires and figure out issues. Of course it would be something a bit more complex then a door handle for it to be useful but you get the idea. You can use peoples concept sketches too of course.. im not sure if you would need to get permission from people or not as were just practicing and the models we make would pretty much only be shown here...or if you can just search say conceptart.org, find a cool concept and post it to be worked on. Is there an issue with doing that?
Also I think it should maybe be a weekly thing since you would only post one concept to be worked on at a time. And again, the idea of a post where people can say what they would like to see the next week would make it easy for ideas.

Also, I have some free time if you need help with ideas or any of this stuff...let me know.

Sweet work on the new list God-of-zilla, i have been waiting for it:) As for the idea that you have been discussing it sounds great and im sure it could be awesome if enough people join in. I also liked what you Sagacious said in your last post about doing it once a week with a bit more complex modelling tasks.
Anyway i started of with the wooden wheel, the modeling and unwrapping was quite quick about 40-50 minutes. But once i started texturing it i just lost track of time and ended up spending around 2 hours on that. So all in all this took 3 hours :O

Xerotin - Awesome wheel.... nice texture. Can you post a wire as well? helps us newbies see how you did some parts =)

Thanks Sagacious, of course i just forgot to post wires. Im still quite the newbie myself .I did the spiral stairs as well and it was a bit tricky but this is what i got after 2 hours maybe a little bit more.

yea I realize 2 hours are not enough for the more complex models, feel free to post your finished model later. Personally I don't mind if you guys add another couple of hours here and there, it is still kind of speedy when it comes to modeling, that's what I think anyway.
Good work in here guys, awesome.
Gonna do the door handle or something similar some day this week, hopefully. :wip:
Thanks for the discussion about the concept session. The thing talking against it is if you guys look at the history of this section that the participation sometimes was low, shouldn't perhaps be an obstacle but it is a downer working on a subject which then recieved low participation. In one case it was only me and "roxburry" posting.....
What is keeping me from doing the concept session is that I don't have time for both concept and speed sessions.
So if someone steps up and wanna do it I am all ears.
I think I can and want to keep doing these speed sessions just for the fun of coming up with items, should be a neat list to save for my future needs of modeling. :)

some real nice work guys, loving the textured wheel.
around 2hrs 20min, still not finished but thought id post it up anyway, kinda annoyed with myself it took so long, found myself redoing the top a few times, and still not 100% happy with it :shrug:
about the concept session, i had a look around the other day for some hard surface concepts, but not entirely sure about what im looking for and how much detail is needed, im new to concept art recreation and hard surface modelling in general, if a few people could meet us half way maybe and post a couple of concepts they like then we can all decide which one to try? i think this would be the right way to go about it.
edit: i created a suggestions thread, please post any ideas of concepts into there :)

Tried to do things a bit differently than I usually do..... The topology became pretty messy, gotta work on such things more for future models.

Heres my shield, took me about 2 hours i guess because i vectorized that lion illustration! and i still am slow at modeling.

for the first item, I want to make something that the fans of this challenge choose.. Keep it within the list that Zilla has posted, but what would you like to see as a fan?
The First response to this will get the full rez images, a digital DL of the final model in 3DS and OBJ format for free, and mention anytime i use/sell the model.
I do take full copyright on this, but whoever gets the first message in, gets use without permission. and can resell commercially if they choose (with accreditation to me, my website and email address each time they sell)
I want to produce the highest quality model, so i will most likely go over the 2 hour challenge time for the final production.. but i will post my 2 hour screenshots to show my progress

Just wanted to say that I have started on the next list, unless I hear something from any of you I am gonna post it in beginning of the month of June. Mail me if you got suggestions on items or topics for that list, those will be added to the actual list.....

Made these low poly and it was mostly a scene experiment, low poly with texture.
fish, 1 hour for the scene and the quick modeling.

Had a goo at some Spiral Stairs.
Not the best model, but im happy enough as its made on a Asus Eee PC 1018P.
Modeling time 20min, renders: 5h45min, lol
Hey, im stuck in the middle of nowhere, made the day go faster, lol
Been slacking on the wire part, but wire is wire right? :rolleyes:

I'm very new to these forums and haven't done that much modeling. Most of it in my free time, which is limited. I've started to use Blender, so if anyone has any tips and tricks, please let me know. I want to get a lot better at this so please critique with as much hate as possible. :)
My first model was the door handle, unfortunately took me about 1 hour 30 min. to do. Not too proud of that one. I"m planning on doing more of these soon. I hope.
