Based on a great painting, The Biting Pear of Salamanca (

I'd rather rely on bones for most of the lip action, rather than morph/blendshapes. Although probably the curl in the upper lip will have to rely on the latter technique. Apart from that, what would you put in this character rig?

One suggestion I'd make is, before you start any rigging on this mesh, take out any tension in the mouth expression. Put it into a neutral 'expressionless' pose as its default state. You'll find it very hard to reverse that upwards curl at the corners of the mouth to pull them down into a frown from the current state.

Other than that, he looks like a squishy kind of character that's going to be doing a lot of bouncing so you'll need a solid squash and stretch setup.

Oh yeah and he needs a nasty tongue!!
