View Full Version : Character: Female with weapon

03 March 2011, 06:33 PM
Decided to make a character for games. IŽll let you follow from start to finish and all C&C is appreciated. My goal is to get some kind of cg-job and I hope for this character to help with that.

03 March 2011, 06:39 PM
This is what iŽm going for.

03 March 2011, 08:41 PM
Done a mesh to start sculpting from.
C&C is very much appreciated.

03 March 2011, 12:59 AM
Added pants, t-top and a hat.
Glowes, boots, belt etc. still to be made..

Hey Smas, that's a pretty no nonsense looking woman you've got happening, good stuff. There's a couple of small things that caught my eye, primarily the position of her head. It seems she's angling her head a bit too far forward, like she's got a bit of a hunchback happening. Also there's a bit of an odd crease on the upper / outer parts of her breasts where they meet the pectoral muscles. Her hips look a tad boxy to me, but that's more just personal preference I think. Otherwise I like the general shapes you have setup, she should look pretty good as work progresses.

Hey rtrska, thank you!
First reply and allready some realy good C&C, perfect!
All you say make sense to me and iŽll keep it in mind.
Hope to be back with more stuff tonight or tomorrow.

When starting on the holster I didnŽt find any good/appealing ref-images.
Decided to pic a gun and do my own holster for that.
So hereŽs the gun. Just the basic proportions and shape.
Now IŽll be able to start on the holster. :)

the holster and boots.

04 April 2011, 04:33 PM
Did some sculpting and every time I try to make her look mean. She automagicly becomes a man :(
..iŽll beter get some reference for mean women :)

04 April 2011, 06:24 AM
Women are tricky to get looking attractive, yet tough or aggressive. Its often a few subtle things that are all that's necessary. A slight sneer, or even just "mean" looking eyebrows are often enough to get the idea across.

04 April 2011, 07:46 PM
This is last nights work. Still not good but itŽll do for now. C&C please :)
Moving on to the body.

04 April 2011, 01:52 AM
I think maybe her chin is a bit big as you've got it, and the mouth and nose could be slightly enlarged. This pic is kind of what I'd do, but I didn't have enough time to really finesse it.

Anyhow, I hope you don't mind me smearing your character's face around like this :)

04 April 2011, 03:24 AM
You can smear how much you want! IŽm greatful to get some feedback.
Hope to be back with more updates tomorrow.

04 April 2011, 12:43 AM
Done some sculpting on the body.
Think iŽll leave it like this for now and move on to the clothes.
Just check proportions first :banghead:
Later I can focus on the visible bodyparts and refine those :)
And once again all comments are wellcome!

update on the gun

Hardest part is to find useful ref-images.
High-res-gun about 80% done.

01 January 2012, 02:55 AM
SheŽs got to have a bike a manly one ;)

01 January 2012, 08:51 PM
Updates on the actual character next week I hope :)
Some kind of feedback or thought is very much appreciated.

trying some folds for the pants

Hi smas.

Well I liked your bike, maybe you could add more detail in the engine. But what I really recommend you to do is to model the tires. Don't use an bump or displacement map. I'm telling for my experience, is better to model. After all is pretty easy.

01 January 2012, 06:17 PM
IŽm glad you liked it! :)
I will absolutley add more detail to the engine. I was thinking about wether to model or use bump for the tires. Guess iŽll be modeling them :)

What is the 3d package that you are using? With modeling tires you got a better result.

cyrus3v: I use maya and zbrush.

I walked to the police station and had a look at a pistol (sig sauer p226) to understand how a few pieces fit together. Thanks to the nice police man :)
HereŽs a small update.

Hi Johan,

I fear I disagree with the crit of rtrska.

I liked her face at it was firstglance.
She has a very nice tomboy agressive touch to her
that gets lost somehow to a not so expressiv face otherwise.

(Sorry, if I am kind of late with this.)

02 February 2012, 04:47 PM
i agree her face is a bit off looking.

her upper lip seems to be to much out and her eyes look like they are to "closed"
but i see the biggest problem that she looks like shes sucking a lolipop.
i would do her chin much wider, if i could model humans :D

like here

but still very interesting stuff!

02 February 2012, 06:22 AM
Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
About the face.. IŽm glad you like it Jake. However I will change/remodel before this is finished. I agree with what Kareeem said about "sucking lolipop" for sure.
Hope to get time for human modeling next week!

Again thanks for commenting! It realy helps and inspires.

HerŽs a small update on the gun

02 February 2012, 05:10 AM
Most of the modeling done and I set up a quick render with a few lights.. couldnŽt help it.
My goal was to finish this today, but other things had to be done :(
Maybe ill leave it for a few days to get going with the actual characters body.

02 February 2012, 01:52 AM
Hope this will work.. IŽll try linking to my dropbox! :)

hahah wonder how to write below the image.. cant get down there

Thats some really nice mechanical modeling smas!
Are you going to put some textures on those later with some oil stains scratches, some dirt and such? would be killer.

For the character you should lock over the anatomy legs seem a bit to long, if that's not what your aiming for of course.
May add some slope in the neck to shoulder area, and the torso is in general around 3 heads.
of the 2 pictures flipping in your gif animation i like the one with eyeŽs closer together smaller ears and round chin it locks most feminine. I think you will get her more mean with some textures so the eyebrows is more present.

The mechanical parts are really nice.

I must say, the model is looking quite nicely also. The folds on the pants are quite good, but you may want to relook at the butt area. The big fold at the butt area feel unnaturally, & flat. Usually, at the butt area ( apparent I study a lot of these....)tends to be tighter, & the folds must be more firm, & not loose (unless of course it is really baggy).

Anyway, I made a paintover for the head.
I hope you do not mind. Not sure the final look you go for, but you can use this for reference.

10 October 2012, 07:32 PM
Thank you PKD I agree that the pants specially the but dont look very good and will fix that.
The face need to be totaly reworked.. so much to do and so little time.
Actualy I have changed job/employer and learnt modo! :buttrock:
Havnt had any time for this project.
Hopefully I can get started with it again soon.

01 January 2013, 11:13 PM
As I said before, im learning modo, it rocks!
