*LATEST UPDATE* Dominance War V - 2D - Arokz - God of Struggle
This is my first time ever doing a challenge. I would like to participate to have fun and learn from everyone. I feel like I struggle daily with art so to keep it simple, I will do:
"God of Struggle"
03 March 2011, 05:09 PM
Nice concept and sketch. Like the head and the upward section of your design.
Good luck and have a lot of fun!!. Waiting for updates. Cheers!!
03 March 2011, 05:17 PM
omg is the guy farting out in the shapes of piercing swords? thats totally unstoppable, yo! ^^
Agreed with ferx, cant wait to see moar!
03 March 2011, 12:04 AM
Ferx: Thank you for your comment mate! Lets have fun!!!
PuiArt: Ha! Thank you for stopping by and making me ----- > :)
Here is another little update. Will be updating again in a bit.
03 March 2011, 11:39 PM
Another post with the God of Struggle,
Worked on some thumbnails here with a few ideas that I want to do. I am trying to have this God be up high sitting in some kind of platform. I am running tubes around his body connected to the fluid that gives him his daily energy. Even though he is a God, his daily struggle to help others still drains his mind and body so he needs to stay connected with his energy.
I am not the best story teller but I hope this gives a further idea about this character.
Please, any ideas, comments, or suggestions that can help me out will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all.
03 March 2011, 11:46 PM
Lol, PuiArts imagination is clearly totally in line with the overall DW-theme ;D
Anyways, really good job and awesome color palette! Keep up the good work man! If I may make a recommendation I'd try to break the symmetry of the image to create new interesting elements and shapes.
03 March 2011, 02:41 AM
Thank you for commenting solblomma, and I agree its really symmetrical right now. Ill go ahead and add some more to it to break it up a bit :)
03 March 2011, 04:44 AM
It's looking good, man. I can't really tell if he's sitting or squatting. I dont know, maybe it's just me. ;P
Although, an epic throne would be, well, epic!
03 March 2011, 04:07 PM
Thank you man for commenting. You are right I am still struggling with that. I wanted him to be sitting down but not comfortably, almost as if he wanted to get up from his seat but was attached to his energy tubes and all the junk on top of him. So maybe he is sitting right at the edge of his throne hoping to one day stand and leave his suffering/struggle.
Thank you once again for stopping by man. Appreciate it.
Another little update here with his throne in progress. The throne will be a mixture between a dead tree trunk that lives by being fed of the liquid that keep The God of Struggle alive. The tree trunk at the top closest to the God will be throwing light that reflects of the energy liquid, can be indication of life. The tree trunk will have more tubes running around and whatever drips from it will fall into a river, that river then flows through out the world where people use it as there personal medication. Still playing around with this idea. Its pretty blurry here but ill post again soon.
03 March 2011, 08:22 PM
03 March 2011, 11:22 PM
So I started working on his throne and changed a few things. Here is what I have so far. Feedback is greatly appreciated.
03 March 2011, 01:52 AM
I like B!
By the way I really enjoy how you incorporated the cg society symbol into the image. I am struggling with how to do that myself.
03 March 2011, 11:12 AM
I really like it a lot, great concept. Waiting for more updates.
03 March 2011, 02:18 AM
PavelSokov- Thank you, I am sure you will find a good spot for the logo ;) Thanks for stopping by mate and leaving a comment, keep rockn!

Here is another little update... I really struggle coloring so please, please give me some pointers :(
And also, does anyone know what we need for the finals... I read the rules but i didnt catch if we need to do turnaround sheets of the character. Thought it was just a character and some coloring.

This image is really getting better every update, really interesting work in lighting.
04 April 2011, 07:00 PM
Thank you davidramonilustracion :)
Here is another update,
04 April 2011, 07:59 AM
Nice man - I think the process to this point has been very interesting; it definitely looks bad ass!
The throne almost looks like there's another god that is "struggling" to keep the main god up, haha. Not sure if I was reading that right.
But definitely, great work on making the colors work together, nice textures on the landscape.
04 April 2011, 10:12 AM
I like the impression of size you've got going on, and the landscape works well. Looking good (just not keen on the little figure, it looks a bit clumpy and dark)
04 April 2011, 01:53 PM
AngeloCordon: I know what you mean. As I was painting the throne I started to see that it looked like there is another form underneath holding the throne up. Actually seems like if that one is struggling even more now holding up the throne, lol. Ill be making another update soon. I think I need to work on the face of the actual God sitting on the throne some more to really show some sort of struggle on this face expression as well. Thank you for stopping by mate and leaving a comment!
BaronImpossible: Thank you mate and I agree. That little figure will be changing. I really just put it there to show scale, will definitely not be the final one. Please come back for the next update :)
04 April 2011, 01:57 PM
I don't want to give up on my piece... its my first one and I want to finish. Any help and tips would help me tremendously. Thank you all. This is what I have so far.
04 April 2011, 05:42 PM
Hoping to help, I think you're going very well, maybe your image seems I bit difuse and needs only some more detailing and contrast. Just a few more hours.
Anyway I think the concept, composition and lighting looks great.
Keep it on.
04 April 2011, 03:57 AM
Thank you davidramonilustracion,
Here is another update...
04 April 2011, 04:13 PM
Update... Thinking of starting some turnaround sheets soon.
04 April 2011, 04:00 AM
Hi Arokz , your work is awesome man : ) , I do love that the character have a powerful feeling of God by composition and proportion and color make it feel contrast that's was great , my suggestion is should it have some more specular and occlusion to make more dimension of him , keep on it : )

04 April 2011, 03:25 PM
Well, I think it is improving indeed, you have nearly got it.
04 April 2011, 01:39 AM
This is a very beautiful piece and the colors are fantastic. So is this your finish piece? If so its amazing, take care for now.
04 April 2011, 12:52 PM
My words here fail to express what my feelings and I simply don't know where to begin.
Let me just start by saying that you have EPIC skills.
Right from the start it was apparent that the end result was going to be a masterpiece, which it is. The concept and the execution were perfectly done.
The environment complements the main character in a way like I've rarely seen before(I admit that I haven't seen all the artwork around but then again this is EPIC).
Is there any chance of seeing this in a wallpaper format ? Just sayin :P
04 April 2011, 06:50 PM
Hey man, cool concept, I like the combination between machine and magic, and the illumination is awesome, keep it up, I am looking to see the final entry.
05 May 2011, 05:13 PM
nicedream: I agree. Will try my very best to keep pushing it and add some specular and occlusion. Thank you for stopping by and leaving me a comment :)
davidramonilustracion: Thank you I will give it the extra kick to try and get it all the way. Thank you so much for stopping by :)
ShogunWarrior: Thank you for your kind words. Not my final piece yet. I want to try and pop out more details and experiment a bit more. Please feel free to come again and see a bit more progress. Have a nice day mate :)
BaronFlame: Thank you so much mate! Once finished I will be glad to make it into a wallpaper size if you are interested :)
chava: Thank you chava. Will try my best for the final piece! :)
Thank you everyone that is stopping by to see my progress. I appreciate so much everyones feedback. Please feel free to critique and share pointers with me.
Keep rockn everyone and good luck to all here is a very small update :)
05 May 2011, 11:34 PM
Nice work .I like epic feeling of your illustration.
05 May 2011, 02:33 PM
Thank you so much Jae-Keum
05 May 2011, 05:50 PM
Update... Hope to push it a bit more today.
05 May 2011, 08:57 PM
Alright guys... I felt like this piece needed some sort of friend/pet so here is another update. Adding a bird of fire as the gods pet. Will wrap around the entire "god" to help hold him up on his throne. Remove or continue with the bird?
05 May 2011, 12:44 AM
Pretty nice !
05 May 2011, 01:36 AM
Thank you yigit,
last update for today. My eyes are tired.. but had fun today :buttrock:
05 May 2011, 04:57 AM
It looks brilliant !!
The phoenix type bird touch is amazing, but for some reason the fire element is conflicting with the lightning that's on top. Also it seems odd that the two pillar like structures around the spot where the lightning isn't effected by the light of the bid. Just saying
05 May 2011, 03:44 PM
BaronFlame: Thank you so much BaronFlame. Here is another update... tried to work on the things you mentioned but I dont know if I understood or got them fixed. Feel free to comment on it again :)
05 May 2011, 06:14 PM
pfff, youre insane dude , this looks very sweet to me, Im sorry I dont have the skillz to give advice about 2d painting, I would like to give feedback but youre way better 2d artist than me so I find this great!!...keep rocking man Ill be watching your outcome.
05 May 2011, 07:56 PM
Rattlesnake: Thank you for stopping by my friend. Your 3d work is amazing! :)
Alright everyone, I am getting ready to move on to the next step of the challenge. Had tons of fun painting this piece and receiving feedback from everyone that stopped by. Please keep coming back for the rest of my progress.
Here it is,
05 May 2011, 11:51 PM
Hey arokz nice progress on this piece. I like the addition of the sorcerer in the foreground and all the fire energy rocks!
Also, you have some nice values/contrast and texture in the foreground area but the middle and top feel a little "washed out" by comparison. Perhaps adding some darker shadows to pop more of the forms might be a quick way to help with the readability of the body/leg area. Looking foward to seeing more:)
05 May 2011, 11:52 PM
looks really beautiful man...:cool::bowdown:
05 May 2011, 01:36 AM
This looks great! Your lastest additions really added even more intensity ! wonderful job!
05 May 2011, 03:25 AM
hi Arokz, the final piece look really good! can see that you put a lot of effort on it, by adding the bird and the fire element make the god look very powerful and strong! i like it and wish you good luck!
05 May 2011, 12:01 PM
Interesting, do you mind sharing the idea and some background for your character?
Visually, the composition looks a bit symmetrical, up and down, left and right, maybe it's just me. but I do like the massive scale proportion, really make things epic. If you wanna try a new approach, perhaps give it a little lower angle view, that way we can feel as if we are looking at the awesome god.
Keep us update man.
05 May 2011, 10:40 PM
KCassidy, rattlesnake, PaulAbrams, DerrickSong, Randize : Thank you guys so much for your words. Really want to thank you all for taking your time to write and comment on my piece as I know that everyone here is very talented and all your words are wisdom. Wish you all the best of luck to everyone here with this great competition.
Posting a little update here and informing you all that I will no longer be continuing this competition. Had a GREAT time getting to meet everyone here and their art. Thank you all and until next time :)
Good luck to ALL!
05 May 2011, 11:05 PM
Hey Arokz, this last update is beautiful.
What? Are you quitting? You won't submit it for voting? If so it really saddens me.You've already done the hardest part and have another week..
I hope i misunderstood it..
05 May 2011, 06:35 PM
yigit: Thank you my friend, I will try hard to finish but I will be busy at work for the next couple of days. Here goes the layout.
05 May 2011, 07:12 PM
Hey man!! Im sure you will find some time to post it bro...they extended deadline by 7 days!!
I was about to quit too..but with this new deadline Ill be able to finish (I hope)..
but please dont you quit, your image is just amazing :) :scream:
btw nice story line
05 May 2011, 10:55 AM
A very strong piece, definitely one of the best in CGsociety pages. I wish u all the best! :)
05 May 2011, 09:00 AM
Rocky, please tell me you're not quitting?! You're piece is in a better position than many people - what have you got to lose from submitting what you have? I think you'll be really surprised at how well you'll do. You've had a lot of interest in the posts, it would be a real shame not to take it to the finish line! It sounds like you're busy at work for a couple of days but keep going- only one more week!

Arokz, I think you've done a great job here. I know you may not consider it finished but I think there are many of us who would put ourselves in that category! I still love your balance of warm and cool colours in your final illustration as well as a great concept. Good luck with everything!
