View Full Version : Dominance War V - 2D - Ferx - God of no idea for now
Like many others in this war, I dont have a clear idea at this moment of what kind of god I will do for the challenge :)
I´m making some rough sketches on a few ideas, waiting for the dark side enlighten me... :D
Good luck to everyone and cheers!!!
03-26-2011, 11:20 AM
So glad to see your work again. Nice sketches.
03-26-2011, 11:44 AM
Hey there. Nice sketches, especially the first ones. I like the skull faces and my favourite is the one middle-bottom in the first image. The second batch are good but more monster than god.
David: Thanks for your words ! :)
Simon: Thanks for the comment. I dont have a clear idea yet but I like the skull style head for the character, I'll keep that feature for the next designs :D. Cheers!!
A new idea ... The god of Gravity Force :D ....
Like the idea of a massive and ultra bulky god.
He can sustain his huge structure weight because he has total control over gravity force.
Some very rough sketches about this concept:
03-27-2011, 09:25 PM
Great idea and sketches! Especially the latest ones. I think it misses something though, dont know what, which would make him a god rather than just a monster. But ur going in the right direction with this one :) good luck!
03-28-2011, 06:36 AM
You sketches are looking good, I like the feel you get with the pen over grey washes in the first ones.
03-28-2011, 08:54 AM
all lovely sketches. As the previous posters said, it looks good but looking more of a monster rather than a god.Maybe add a bit mof mysterious hints here and there? or add some supernatural element?
03-28-2011, 11:28 AM
Hey buddy, I agree with the idea of it being a bit more "monster like" as others have said. I like your sketches though even if they are a bit monsterish. But I don't see why your God can't look like a monster, just as long as the concept is still of a God. Maybe if you get the basic idea of how you would like your God to look and then add God-like elements, ie maybe a throne, worshippers, garments, staff or weapon (maybe supernatural style like Yigit suggested). Looking forward to more work dude.
03-28-2011, 03:39 PM
who knows how Gods look like ? for me the concept works fine, looks very powerfull and the gravity concept is great! looking forward for more Ferx!
03-30-2011, 11:07 AM
About recent comments, I suppose a god can have every form. Can be similar to a monster, a human, a plant, or similar to nothing.
I like the gravity idea, gravitational force controls the universe, it is a huge power for a god.
Keep on working. Bye.
03-30-2011, 11:11 AM
Last sketches are nice, I like the idea about gravity.:)
03-30-2011, 11:12 AM
Floating things are good, I like floating things. Perhaps have him in a more vertical position, as he can control gravity, and that would make him more like a god and less like a beast. I do like the skull-like head though.
03-30-2011, 11:15 AM
ok , sorry to say that then .Maybe i was commenting a bit too early by just looking at the first sketches. I'd better wait for the final work to tell my opinion then.
04-01-2011, 07:39 AM
I love his gaping jaw XD And you've already gotten across the epicness of his size!
Blaz - Thank for your comment. Yes, agree with you, I need to put the "god aura" in the character.:D
Samuel - Thanks for your words, and glad that you liked the sketches. Cheers!! :)
Yigit - Really thanks for your suggestions, you are totally righ, I need to push more the concept to a really credible god. Thanks again for your words! Cheers!! :D
Matt - Thanks for your comment amd support, really cool suggestions! and I follow your advice for sure. Cheers! :D
Jorge - Thanks for droping by , and thanks for your words, I really appreciate it. Cheers!!
David - Thanks for your comment. You are right and I keep working on the god of gravity concept. :D
Alise - Really thanks for your words! Cheers!! :D
Simon - Thanks for the suggestions. Yes you are totally right, a more vertical position can help and I will try that in the next update. Cheers!!
Katie - Thanks for your words and glad that you liked the extra giant and bulky size of the god :D
Working a bit on the concept of the god. I try a vertical position on him and make some helmet designs trying to put god touch on the character. Think that #2 and #3 can work with the concept... :D
04-04-2011, 06:08 PM
I like him better like that. You could have him hovering slightly above the ground and instead of legs on his lower half, have fins, so that it's clear he can master gravity. Looking good, though, keep it up.
Simon: Thanks for your support and suggestions. The hovering idea is really cool, I try it in the next sketches... Like always I´m making a lot of turns before landing my concept... hahahah... time to work :D Again, thanks for your comment.
Working a bit in the whole design and incorporating the idea of hover (thanks BaronImpossible :) )
In the option A, I managed multiple arms, and in the B option a more bulky god with multiple legs like a centipede :D
I need to push more the concept and do the final design ... time goes fast!
04-06-2011, 08:54 PM
The centipede guy is way more scary, worms are more friendly creatures, it depends on what mood do you want to convey. I like the centipede god.
Lepilo, thanks for your comment. You are right, maybe the centiped version is more scary :D
Playing with some ideas on the use of gravitational powers, like use of any material for weapons and armors....
04-06-2011, 11:18 PM
Hi Ferx, I like your updates, your god is looking cool, I like the B option, I have a sugestion, the end of the tail must be more sharpened or something like that, it would give a stronger look to your character. Congrats, see you :)
04-07-2011, 04:18 AM
Not to confuse you but I like the worn version more!
Doesn't it suck when you show two versions of something and the posters always disagree? Happens to me all the time, I hate the confusion and ambiguoity of it..
04-07-2011, 02:24 PM
I'm with Pavel, I like the wormy one the best XD
Christian - Thanks for your comment. You are totally right about the tail, I'm taking note on your suggestion, thanks! :D
Pavel - hahahah yea, taste is a totally subjective matter. I think you ever go with the elements, personality, emotion, composition and mood in the character that help to tell the story that you want to transmit. Thanks for your words! Cheers!!
Katie - Thanks! Taking note on your vote :D
I have not had much time to work with the concept. I´ms still trying to find the definitive idea .... but I think I'm closer ... :D
04-15-2011, 07:28 PM
I like his hovering little legs, reminds me of an alien version of the Baron from Dune.
04-15-2011, 11:11 PM
Brilliant development and the concept of gravity control is nice. He looks cool floating around with his little legs
04-16-2011, 07:19 PM
I like the most the last one version.
04-16-2011, 07:27 PM
Great concept! I like what he does at #23 and the design at #28. He's cute actually, but in a violent way. He'll sure be a badass god! Can't wait to see the final illustration! Good luck!
Simon - Glad that you liked. Yes, from the beginning of the challenge I had the idea of a god of corruption, inspired by the Baron Vladimir Harkonnen from Dune novel, but someone had already chosen that god and I decided to go in other direction, but I can't remove from my head the idea of the Baron Harkonnen :D
Adam - Thank for your comment, appreciated. Cheers!!!
David - Thanks mate ! :D
Ersin - Thanks for your words and support. For sure is a totally badass god :D Cheers!
I made a decision and I'm going for the pot-bellied god design :D . I think that concept is better suited for my idea, and for the hanging legs ( great for the hovering idea) on the Baron Harkonnen´s style
And some ideas for a an arm weapon/armor (Now i need to work on the god outfit :D)
04-16-2011, 11:48 PM
The skull one is cool, maybe have the logo on the skulls forehead?
04-18-2011, 02:43 AM
I like where this is going buddy, the pot belly idea is cool and he is definitely looking badass. I also think the logo would go well with the skull as Phoenix-06 mentioned. However I also thought it might work well as a tattoo.
Adam and Matt - thanks for your comments and suggestions. Agree with the skull armor for the arm and fist and the logo on it. :) I need to accelerate the work to finish on time.
still working in ideas for the god.... and less than a month for the deadline...hahaha.... but is the fun part :D
Like the stone helmet in a football helmet style :D
04-21-2011, 06:38 PM
Sketches are nice and the idea is unique, keep going.
Cannot wait to see the final picture.
04-22-2011, 10:04 AM
First design is a bit too cartoony but the second two are excellent. I particularly like the skeleton idea, I'd definitely include that in your worksheet or concept sheet. Helmet looks good too. One idea, being that he's the god of gravity, might be to have free-floating armour than can enclose the body, re-arrange itself or hover around him when not in use. Would make for an interesting concept sheet although not sure how it might transfer to the image itself. Just an idea, keep up the good work.
Opsite - Thanks for your words. Glad that you liked the concept. :D
Simon - Really thanks for all of your support. Your suggestion is really great, an ultra cool idea with many possibilities, I will make some sketches of that idea and I hope to correctly translate in the final concept. Cheers!!
Not much progress, but I´m having a lot of fun :D
I start whit the modeling sheet. I need to land the concept and make the final image, not much time left :D
04-24-2011, 06:50 AM
I am a bit sad that you went with the centipede body over the worm. However that seemed to be the consensus so I understand.
You forgot to include his facial tattoo on the side view.
Also he seems a bit bare and boring, I really suggest you explore the idea of free floating armor that Baron suggested!
Pavel - Thanks for your comment. Yes, you are right, maybe i need to push more the concept, hope I can try more ideas, like the floating armor, in the time remaining before the deeadline. Thanks for your support. Cheers!!
04-25-2011, 09:51 AM
Hey, this is really going very good.
I like a lot the head details, my favorite is the tattoo version.
04-26-2011, 03:22 AM
I saw your design and I can see you put a lot of effort into your piece. I can't really say much because the design is not complete and the final piece is not done yet. I'll wait on it and see what you will finish with. Can't wait to see more buddy! keep up the good work. Its exactly what i was intended to draw but you drawn it first! cheers!
David - Thanks for your support !! Glad that you liked the tattoo version. Cheers!! ( con unas cañas bien frías y uno que otro tequila :D)
Peter - Thanks for drop by. I need to work a bit more fast to finish this concept :D Thanks again for your encouragement. Cheers!!
04-26-2011, 07:07 PM
I like the rugby head ! And I'm also happy with the centipede body, I have a suggestion maybe his human legs should be skiny.. or fatty, 'couse now they look like a sportsman leg(s)
Working a bit more on the modelling sheet. For not to scold me hard I included the tattoos :D ( kidding :D) ( and need to push a bit more the design of the tattoos.... )
Lepilo - Thanks for your words and the suggestions for the legs, you are totally right and I´m taking note on that. :)
Working the concept of a hover armor. First idea for the helmet.
04-27-2011, 08:53 PM
hover armor is a great idea!
Ersin - Thanks mate. Glad that you liked that idea. Cheers!
04-28-2011, 05:37 PM
The helmet idea is really sweet Ferx (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=283330) !
04-29-2011, 02:28 AM
hey man.. very cool idea (as always) , yeah the helmet thing is cool! :buttrock: :buttrock:

Lepilo - Thanks for your words and encouragement. :)
Jorge - Really thanks my friend and glad that you liked the concept. Cheers man!!
Trying more ideas for a hover armour and stuff. (I set a deadline until april 30 for concepts and ideas, to have time for finish the final image :D)
04-29-2011, 03:44 PM
I like the chained stone armour and also the spiky head.
This is going very good.
Hope to see your final image soon.
David - Thanks for your encouragemnet and support! Hope I can finish it in time ( no more beer for now..... no, no... i need inspiration and is friday... more beer and tequila !!! :D hahahaahaha Cheers  )
Working in the concept of hover armour. A chain web with rocks.
04-30-2011, 06:15 AM
hey man, looking nice, so the idea is that he can grab pieces from the terrain to complete his armour? this way he can achieve very complex armour pieces Im afraid, wich is totally awesome!! good job!
man I tried your technique fo inspiration, the one including beer and tequila but no bright ideas came fo me..only pink elephants..haha :D
Thanks Jorge for your comments and support.
Hey , the technic of beer and tequila works and works very well, which I forgot to tell you is that you have to ask the pink elephants for ideas ... hahahaha :D Cheers!!
04-30-2011, 09:48 PM
ohhh..hahahhaah..nice!! that should work...thanx bro! :bounce::D
My last day for working on ideas for the final concept :D . Trying a composition for the god.
05-01-2011, 08:43 AM
Hey man, cool concept, i like how you gave personality with the gravity feature, the rocks flying and the chains really stands out he controls gravity, also the idea of assembly helmet is really a cool idea. Ill be looking for your entry, very nice job. keep it up
05-01-2011, 04:36 PM
hey man..your god looks very dangerous in action for sure, hope the time left will be enough for you to complete this in time, good luck man!!
05-01-2011, 09:35 PM
good luck man, that you can finish it, keep on :buttrock:
05-01-2011, 10:07 PM
The composition is pretty strong ! I like it a lot !
Chava - Thanks for your words and really glad that you liked the overall concept. Cheers!!
Jorge - Thanks for the encouragement !! I hope to finish the concept... no more beer and tequila for now.... hahahaha :D Cheers!! ( bueno , una ultima chela antes de ponerme a trabajar en serio... :D)
Amolas - Thanks mate. Working hard to finish!
Lepilo - Thanks! Glad that you liked the composition :)
Another composition study .... I like this because the gravity control is more evident , but the other has a fierce and destructive touch... :D
and another composition ...
05-03-2011, 05:04 AM
Hmm nice ones mate!!..I like the first one of these two last comps, where every one is floating...love the people flying around, and shows a very powerful god because the camera angle as well , really nice!!
Jorge - Thanks man! Yes I like that composition and think is the best choice to show the god of gravity in action :D Thanks again for your support. Cheers!! ( y que vengan las chelas, la cosa es pasarselo bien :D)
05-04-2011, 09:44 AM
I quite agree, the second composition absolutely stands out in my eyes. The one you 2 are talking about, with the upward force. Because gravity and godlike are just the first two words that come to mind when I look at the picture.
However, I did like the brutality and destructive touch in the first as well.
Have you considered combining some of it? Those skyscrapers look quite pointy and destructive, let them rain down? Or some other downwards force (chains, debris, whatever) that he can display without ruining the dynamic of the image. (Still a student myself, so I'll leave all that stuff like perspective and movement for you to figure out.)
P.S. Do try to maintain that "Effortless" feel to the action, as if he could snap the world when snapping his fingers. I love that and it completly fits the godlike and gravity theme.
Erik - Thanks for your comments and suggestions. Yes , I think the best composition is the upward perspective. I give a try to a combination of the first ( destructive ) composition and the second one.
The "effortless" look is a great suggestion , thanks!! Cheers!!
05-05-2011, 04:18 AM
hi Ferx, i prefer the compositions that you posted on 05/02, i feel that piece has more dynamic feeling and the action of the god look more powerful! however i agree that you try to combine within the 2 latest piece will have some different kind of feel, good luck!
05-05-2011, 06:08 PM
Well done Ferx (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=283330), I like the 71 post, really dynamic
Derrick - Thanks for your words. Yes I´m going for that composition, only a few days to the deadline but hope to finish it. Cheers!!
Lepilo -Thanks for your support, and glad that you liked that composition ( is the good one :D)
Working a bit in the model sheet... Oooohhhhh my god looks like a hybrid between a caterpillar, a tick, a bedbug and a flea......... hahahahahahahahahahaha :D ..... :curious: :argh:  .... no time for going back ... going with this odd god:shrug: .... time to work fast, only few days... :wip: ....but first things first ... Cheers!!! hahahahaha
A rough color palette test and environment mood (and some stuff in perspective for a comp test)

Just looking at it I feel like I'm being drawn in without the ability to resist - so cool. I hope you get the time to finish it! Looking forward to seeing the final work a lot!
