a goddess that likes causing pain.
She wouldn't be so bad except she went insane 351,000 years ago when her husband the god of love left her, and accidentally took a nice chunk of her mind with him. Now the council of gods try to control her, so she doesn't destroy the universe, but sometimes she manages to sneak a few humans into her lab.

lol you and your crazy women!! I like the concept so far! One thing though, for me it doesn't have enough "goddess" elements to her. To me she looks more like a angel of blood instead of a goddess. Just my 2 cents :buttrock:

cool man, i think this is pretty unique feeling. i think this gothic/horror more realistic approach could be really awesome. I really dig the hand floating. maybe incorporate more stuff like that? im not sure. but there may be more places in the design to add pazazz.

Awesome! I like how she lost her mind and now a good part of her head is missing. It looks like someone took a big bite. Great concept!
I'd love to see her in one of those horror fest movies.

Thanks! I put the logo as a tattoo on the victim. Also a few other changes. I don't feel the need to rush into modeling, I want to get this right first. I think I'm almost there.... maybe.....

Who thinks her apron should be made from human skin? And who likes the plain green material? :)

also putting a glowing glyph in the blood to add a more interesting light source

I really like this concept, it's true that she doesn't look very massive/godlike, but I think that's not always needed. Sometimes it's just the pose and expression that makes a character feel mighty without the need to make him very big with fancy stuff around his body.

Thanks! Here again some minor changes. One side of the bathtub now slopes, she is hovering, wing is bigger, arm is higher, background is touched up, apron hangs differently catching more light, last boot is gone, spike on arm added, etc

looking great sir, Im thinking something could be added on her leg, spike-wise, not sure, it may take away that woman like silhuete and become more like a monster.

yeah the glowing glyph gives it something special - good change!
like the cutted design of her but her apron - if she would be a butcher , ok, but she is a goddess :) a better solution for her costume would pay off.

I love the concept and the glyph really does work better than the leg sticking out.

Could I recommend one thing? Her forearm is cut in the middle completely off, could I suggest maybe having her bone show through instead of having her lower forearm/hand just floating? Just makes me wonder why that arm is cut and the rest of her appendages are intact

Maybe just something to think about. Other than that this is a great concept keep going!:beer:

Good points all, I've tried to address them at least partially. Here's another version.

The apron is supposed to be made of human skin, it's hard to tell so I tried to make some more human parts hanging off it, like a hand, and a couple faces in there...

I redid the wings. They are supposed to be slowly rotating pieces of iron ore with sharp edges, like gigantic scissors, I'll try to add some more later.
I keep changing her because she just doesn't look epic enough. I started this concept trying to make her look totally human, just like a weird insane character from some slasher horror movie. But the limitations of the rules made it impossible to make the concept scary enough, so it fell flat. Now the only way forward is to make her look more "god-like", like what everybody else is going for.

I'm not going to go to 3D at all unless I feel something special for the project, right now it's a bit "meh" for me, on the fence so to speak. If I can't make this concept pop for me, I'll just drop out. No big deal, I have no illusions or grand plans of winning or anything like that, just wanted to try this contest once. But having said that, I think that possibly I'll start on the 3D next week.

Hey Steven, looking good. Sorry my comments are so late, you have prolly moved
ahead with your current concept, so my ramblings are irrelevent.
The things I liked were the head extensions, they gave her a regal quality,
and were very gothic, I think you could see if you can make them work.
The wings are working, though if they went down her back, and the metal
fused with the flesh, or grew out like scales to form the blades... (the giants causeway)
comes to mind. I think the wings could be more weaponlike, or more articulate.
The cracked nature could feature more all over to give it more texture, maybe in the facial features, or where the apron touches flesh.
Glad to see your entry, you show these young un's how its done mate.

For your last 2d update, I didn't like the missing head spikes, it left the head missing a lot. Seemed rather boring.
The update before had great spikes going on!

Also I suggest you sneak the cg society logo onto the wing thing as a red symbol instead of on the bathtub.

looks like you are approaching this as an illustration rather than a functioning realtime game character.

She's just posed for final render, she still has her bind pose. I could paint the normal sculpt first in the bind pose, then go back and adjust the sculpt for her final pose. Or I could skip a step and start sculpting directly in the final pose. That would make it more likely I can finish on time. It's not like this will ever be a real game character. But if it's against the rules to sculpt in the final rendering pose without first sculpting in the bind pose then I'll start off by sculpting in the bind pose first.

My opinion of his opinion of my opinion ... also :)
I think the elements are there, we just need to see more of them.
More fragmentation of the Blades, like iron filings on magnets, more spikes from the skull,
like maybe arteries and veins, or fractured skull, definatly more cracks, to give her that freaky
broken doll's face feeling. And definatly some mudbox or zbrush love.
I would pay to see you sculpt some awesomness on this. Truely.

Here's the screenshot. Sorry it's taking so long but I'm going really detailed... I also have problems with Zbrush, being new to it. I would prefer to use Mudbox but there are a couple brushes I just like the feeling slightly better in Zbrush and after all using a favorite brush is what 99% of modeling is all about. :)

i know i bugged you about the fixed pose thing before but i wanted to re-iterate the issue since i can see you are sculpting the highpoly in that fixed pose.

as far as i know, part of the technical challenge of dominance war is to create a realtime character that would work in a video game. i know that no one is actually putting their character in a real game but the point is to make something that would work in a game.

if you are executing the character in a fixed pose then it would not work as a dynamic character in a video game. it would be like a statue.

the way you are doing it seems a bit redundant since the 3d part is static. it would be better to just do it as a 2d entry and skip the 3d altogether since all you see at the end is a 2d image and lets not forget, your 2d painting would beat most people's 3d any day.

This particular pose is impossible to do with a game character in a game today. You could do it if you were allowed to use morf targets and animated normal maps, but that's very expensive and you can only use that in certain circumstances.
If I tried to do this by sculpting in the neutral pose then weighting a skeleton, perhaps even adding some extra bones that would normally not be there, the anatomy would look really really bad in this pose. To me, anyway. And I refuse to work hard on an image that looks bad to me and then display it in public.
I could have picked a different pose but this is the one I picked and this is the one I want to do.

So ok, I'll see it as a sculpting and modeling challenge. To me this is relevant to what I do every day, it's good practice. It will still beat a 2d image because I can rotate it and take snapshots from several angles, and alter the lighting etc. So I'm ok if it disqualifies me, it takes the pressure off because I don't have to worry about the deadline. :)

I seriously doubt that deriving a standard realtime cage from this sculpt would be that difficult. I think the difficult part is coming up with the initial design in the first place.

Cool stuff! Loving the pose. I would suggest adding another segment on her right knee, especially since the light hits it, as it does. I am guessing you are still going to add blood on the area chest/stomach and the blade that comes through it? Would be nice to see contrast in the blood stains and the fabric itself. Good luck!

Looks great and would be a fearsome end of level boss, but maybe you can add the glow from the logo in the bath to her knee, and some lighting effects to her, maybey in the cracks or inside the skull. She needs a little something more.

Thanks for the comments. I also find the character needs something more, but I can't think of what right now.

Some more renders. I suppose it's pretty much done, won't be able to work on it over the weekend and the deadline is Monday, so I guess that's it. Just about time for some wireframes and texture swatches on Monday.

I absolutely love this. Amazing job. i sifted and searched for a while to find some of my favs this time around and you definitely got up there if not the top. although i haven't looked through them all yet, but again i love this.
