View Full Version : Dominance War V - 2D - davidramonilustracion - Goddess
03 March 2011, 04:47 PM
Hello Every one.
This is my first sketch, I'm thinking about some kind of goddess.
I'll keep on working.
03 March 2011, 04:59 PM
Very nice first sketches very goddess like poses. Keep it up my friend. :arteest:
03 March 2011, 09:46 AM
Thank you AlexaSharlOt
I'll soon upload some more things. But I haven't yet decided which kind of goddess is her , still thinking.
03 March 2011, 12:58 PM
03 March 2011, 02:12 PM
Nice Spawn-thing going on with the cape. She looks a bit serene for a god, though, but maybe some are :)
03 March 2011, 02:57 PM
The cape is awesome, but it really needs something godly, because she is right now more like warrior than goddess, keep going.
03 March 2011, 05:14 PM
Thanks Baron impossible and Alexa SharlOt. You're right.
Well I really wanted her to seem not angry or savage but self confident and serene, sure of her power.
About god looking she actually needs something else, I'm looking for it.
03 March 2011, 05:04 PM
Here I go again, I've had a lot of doubts about the main character and also the environment.
I've nearly decided give her the command of warrior's souls as goddess of dead men, therefore she'll have the power of all armies from hell and even heaven. Then I think she'll be an allmighty goddess.
At the moment I'll put some soldiers coming out from their tombs all around her. Something like the sketch.
I hope it work. I'll thank any comment about.
03 March 2011, 08:57 PM
Really like the action underneath her
03 March 2011, 10:19 AM
Thank you lepilo, it's gonna be a lot of work with so many characters but I hope to achieve a good final image.
03 March 2011, 10:55 AM
Yeah, if this works out well it'd be an amazing dynamic shot.
Do keep in mind they mentioned something in the rules about wanting to see 90% of your god and the focus on the character over massive spell effects and gigantic scenery. I think you'll be alright with the focus on who the god is, the massive cape and towering rock give it away easily, but I would be carefull in not making the character too small compared to the full-sized final image.
03 March 2011, 01:12 PM
I'll check it.
Thank you Feronius.
03 March 2011, 06:27 PM
03 March 2011, 03:56 PM
Oh shit this is going to be really badass!
03 March 2011, 12:13 AM
Cool to see you in this challenge :)
Really nice concept and sketches. I like the idea of a godess of the warriors fallen on battle. a type of valkira, but using that souls for her own purposes, great!! :D
Agree with the comments about of god looking. Maybe you can try a bigger scale in relation with the dead warriors, or she in a big throne. Only a comment :)
Good luck and waiting for more updates. Cheers!!
03 March 2011, 09:29 AM
Thank you Ferx.
I'll try some changes about sizes.
03 March 2011, 03:49 PM
Well, I'm afraid getting into a huge enterprise.
I've got a lot of work to do with those all characters, but I hope to obtain a good final image.
This is the moment any help will be so useful.
03 March 2011, 04:39 PM
Your goddess is sweet!! This is going to be amazing with all the people underneath. I really cant wait to see your final piece. Really love the flow you have going with the bright reds in the middle of your image.
Keep rockn and cant wait for the next update! :)
03 March 2011, 05:56 PM
This is masterful composition! Love the flow.
However I think for you to be on track to win the entire war you need to redesign the goddess.
The reason being Is that her design isn't particularly exciting. If the design was as interesting and imaginative as your composition, you will be put in a very lucrative position.
So make sure to rethink the design and make the image the complete package of awesomeness. Give her 6 arms or something, and inhuman head, do something crazy!
03 March 2011, 10:50 AM
Thank you so much arokz
And thanks Pavel.
I've been thinking about your advice. The thing is I'm of course interested in my final position in the contest, but I firstly expect to make a good illustration for myself and enjoy the project with you all.
You're right about this goddess doesn't look too mighty and inhuman, but actually I like the most the divine image of norse and greek mithology, ( beautiful goddesses mainly).
Anyway it seems a good idea something more spectacular, I will try to improve it.
03 March 2011, 11:06 AM
Nice work. The flow of the figures is very good but I do agree with Pavel, the goddess needs to be more imposing and in charge.
03 March 2011, 07:36 PM
Cool update. like a lot the spiral vortex of souls on your composition. Perhaps the rock looks a bit forced on the vortex, maybe you can replace with some sort of tombstones, only a silly idea :D
Think you can put a really red high glow over the cape behind the goodes to contrast more her shape and drag the eyes of the viewer, for now the detailed warriors on the bottom part, with more contrast with the bright red and orange is the main focus on your image. Only a comment :)
Great work and waiting for more updates! Cheers!!
03 March 2011, 03:46 PM
Thank you Baronimpossible and Ferx.
I'll think about your advices, and hope to upload something new soon.
04 April 2011, 04:17 PM
The stuff going on the right is really eye-catching, you should definately keep that! But as the others said, the godess itself needs more power. When we see her we should think "Damn, I dont wanna mess with her!"
04 April 2011, 04:44 PM
Lot of troubles restructuring the image composition.
I know, this must be done in the sketching step. I always go to the tablet too soon and then I have to do the work twice.
Well, I tried to center the sight on the main character through sizes.
And also change her aspect so to get something more spectacular and mighty. But there's been no way, I suppose I can't leave my first idea.
Every comment will be wellcome.
04 April 2011, 05:14 PM
Here again, I'm trying to change the concept. I leave the idea of souls flowing coming out from ground, now i'm thinking about puting the warrior's souls coming out from the cape.
Hope it works.
04 April 2011, 05:44 PM
I liked the previous concept better to be honest
04 April 2011, 08:40 AM
Thank you Pavel.
The fact is I'm a bit lost. I need to develope the concept some more.
04 April 2011, 05:18 PM
Another possible distribution recovering first idea of souls coming out from the ground.
I'm still on it.
04 April 2011, 07:42 PM
I like the first composition the best, but the last one is pretty cool too
04 April 2011, 07:44 PM
The last update looks cool and I like it I think you can stick with it, but left half is too empty.
04 April 2011, 09:37 AM
Thanks a lot AlexaSharlOt.
That's true, I don't know what yet but I must think about putting something on the left.
04 April 2011, 02:56 PM
I LOVE what you've done with her cape. I think maybe her armour needs to look more imposing, to make her stand out a bit more?
04 April 2011, 04:02 PM
Thank you NavigatorJones
Yes,that's right, the idea is to get out the goddess. Making the armour more spectacular is a good idea.
04 April 2011, 06:46 PM
New step, keep on working.
04 April 2011, 12:53 AM
Oh **** yea, we are back on track I see!
I like this more then the versions with the green pillar so you made progress.
She could be a goddess of war claiming souls on the battlefield.
I still feel as though the stale design of the goddess herself is bringing the picture down a bit. She can't look like she is wearing a costume we could assemble from the wardrobe at our local theatre. It's gotta be more then that I think. Something more then human! Something unreal perhaps!
04 April 2011, 02:20 AM
oh wow wow!
Loving the direction your taking with this. It almost looks like every swings of her giant battle flag, a legion are splash and summon to her arms. crazzzzzy!
Cant I suggest throwing in some more colors in the bottom snow/cliff area? if it is snow, try mixing in some of the below color palette from one of justin sweet's sweet sweet paints, it would look soo good on your piece. ^^
keep at it bro!
04 April 2011, 09:25 AM
I think your latest image is really good, the composition works really well as a whole and the Goddess is much more of the focal point.
I'm still not sold on the goddess as a design on her own but she's not finished so maybe its too early to comment?
04 April 2011, 03:58 PM
Pavel and Sjensen, thank you for your orientation. I'm trying to find something to improve the goddess and make her look more divine, looking for it yet.
Puiart, thanks for showing justin sweet to me, it will be a very useful reference.
See you all.
04 April 2011, 05:26 PM
Hello. Well, changing again.
I'm afraid I'm gonna be making modifications until the deadline.
I changed the goddess pose and I gave her a pair of some kind of wings. I hope it makes her look more mighty.
Does it work?
04 April 2011, 04:49 PM
Hopefully last version of composition, I've been totally jammed for too many days.
Well, I think (I hope) that's similar to what I was trying to obtain.
Now I only have to draw lots of corpse soldiers and keep on improving the background. So much work to end so close to the first step.
Back to work, bye.
04 April 2011, 11:21 AM
menuda pintaza, un curro muy guapo, ánimo :buttrock:
04 April 2011, 05:06 PM
Thank you so much glupman.
I feel I've got it now.
(And congratulations, I've been watching your portraits, they're wonderful.)
04 April 2011, 11:17 PM
The last development image is my favorite so far, really begun to tighten the image together and the flow of the cape as it transitions into people and such has a much nicer shape to it than before. The added scale woks well also. Look forward to seeing this progress.
04 April 2011, 09:19 AM
Thank you Phoenix-06
I'm glad you realised all that. I've worked a lot on those details you've said.
04 April 2011, 05:44 PM
That's the best composition so far, at least for me. Her cape looks a bit like wings I like it makes her more floating. Keep it up
04 April 2011, 09:24 PM
Like your last composition, the contrast of the red with the black cape works really nice. Cool lighting in the image. Waiting for more updates. Cheers!!!
04 April 2011, 04:40 PM
Thank you so much lepilo and Ferx.
04 April 2011, 02:37 PM
New step. Lot of work and little improvement, now I'm detailing the goddess and drawing little soldiers.
Closer view here down.
04 April 2011, 05:03 PM
I like the armour details a lot!
I still wish she had a cool mask on her face or something to make her more intense.
I think this is going well, the floating little guys are the strength of the piece!
I however don't think her staff should be the cg society logo because that has already been done, and you have the CG society colors in use, so you don't have to resort to that.
04 April 2011, 05:47 PM
Thanks a lot Pavel
Maybe you're right about the mask, but the fact is that I simply cannot avoid draw pretty girls, and I like more the greek goddess line like Aphrodite.
In other way is very interesting the matter of the logo, I'm really not satisfied with the placement I choosed and I didn't thought I had already used the team colors. I think I will change that point. Your comment has been really helpful.
04 April 2011, 07:12 PM
oh you werent using red, white and black on purpose? haha the entire time I thought you were doing it because of the CG society scheme
04 April 2011, 04:46 AM
Nice update! I really love all the little guys behind her :D ! Her armor is looking good to, but i think if you put something more contrasty on it could work better, maybe the logo... just a suggestion. Anyway i really like how you are developing it !
04 April 2011, 08:52 AM
Thank you very much comrades.
Hey Pavel you can believe it. I simply choose those colors because I liked them, they just suit me.
Lepilo, perhaps some more contrast, I'll think about that.
The logo has been a trouble, I tried to fit it in the armour and in the lance and it doesn't work. I think I'll take it away.
Well, I have to go travel for some days, I hope to see your work updates at the coming back.
04 April 2011, 05:33 AM
Oh yeah! That looks great! Love the new armour :D
04 April 2011, 08:04 AM
She looks great in detailed armor! Also I'd prefer the close-up as the final image (easier to see her with all the details). All the warriors behind her/in her cape(?) add too much to your concept. One of the best works of the team! Good luck!
04 April 2011, 10:54 PM
maybe you can make her skin more pale or eyes glowing to make her less human like?
04 April 2011, 09:33 AM
Hello, I'm back again.
Thanks a lot NavigatorJones
ersinerturk, I agree with you, but I need all the action around so as to show her mighty power.
yigit, you're right, I've been thinking on something like that and I'll try so.
Thak you very much.
04 April 2011, 10:51 AM
New update, more little ghost soldiers and some detailing.
04 April 2011, 10:59 AM
Sweet! btw the spear seems broken, it's not straight. (or am I missing something?)
04 April 2011, 04:48 PM
Ups, you're right, I didn't realize.
Thanks a lot ersinerturk
04 April 2011, 05:58 PM
Really cool update, the progress on your image looks totally cool. Like a lot the rising wave of gosth corpses. Maybe you can extend a bit your canvas in the bottom part to show a bit more the warriors in comming from the ground, and a bit more of the rocks of the foreground. Again, really good work and waiting for more :D
04 April 2011, 06:42 PM
Mmm, good idea Ferx. I'll do it. Thank you.
04 April 2011, 01:28 PM
Don't have much time, but I need to comment on your work - very amazing, looks fantastic and I think that there are no need for team logo, because the illustration and goddess is in team colors, but if you decide to add it than the only place it could be on leg that don't have armor on it, it can be something like tattoo. Anyway keep it coming !
04 April 2011, 05:00 PM
Thank you so much AlexaSharlOt.
I agree with you, Pavel said the same but anyway I've put the logo nearly hidden on the leg armour down here. Maybe it is not necessary but it is decorative.
About the non armoured leg the fact is that I don't like the tattos too much.
04 April 2011, 05:10 PM
INSANE how you are painting all the extra humans... Epic work mate! Really cant wait to see this piece finished :)
04 April 2011, 03:08 PM
Thank you very much arokz
This work is taking a lot of work.
04 April 2011, 01:42 AM
The color scheme is good. I love the red and the troops! The sword and the armor looks real! I love it! take care for now..
04 April 2011, 04:26 PM
Thank you a lot ShogunWarrior.
Well, I keep on doing, here's a little update.
I've put some lightings and tried to improve the background, I'm not sure about the result.
04 April 2011, 05:22 PM
Like the image a lot. I think that the "tornados" are a cool atmosphere touch for the image. Maybe you can make more blue purple the far tornados and clouds on the bacground to put an atmospheric perspective in te image and gain on deep. Only a comment. Great work and waiting for more updates. Cheers!!
04 April 2011, 04:22 PM
Thanks Ferx, I've tried a little purple at the background, but I'm not satisfied yet.
What about some vulcans?
I think I will look for inspiration at the bottom of some beer jars
05 May 2011, 02:41 PM
Oh man, this is going really well!
Very badass stuff!
05 May 2011, 03:17 PM
Thank you very much Pavel.
Now I hope to finish final image this week and start with the character sheet, I really don't like that part but there is no choice.
05 May 2011, 09:59 AM
Close to the end, new update.
05 May 2011, 03:53 PM
Starting with the sheet.
05 May 2011, 01:22 PM
Admire the colors you used, it's brilliant. Filling in the light and the fog, will be better. keep going.
05 May 2011, 03:56 PM
Thank you very much Echolee0515.
Here is the modeling sheet.
05 May 2011, 05:37 PM
05 May 2011, 06:39 PM
I think your modeling sheet could use some more polish and detailing. we have until the 23rd!
05 May 2011, 01:02 AM
David, love the painting. I don't know how you had the patience to paint all those figures! I agree with Pavel that the modeling sheet could do with a little more work, just to get it up to scratch with the other two pieces. If I may, I think you're finished illustration would look great with a little more atmospheric depth. Just pushing back the distant objects and de-saturating their colours, adding some haze, or including more receeding clouds beneath her will help bring her forward and add another dimension to the final painting. Either way, it looks great. Fab stuff!
05 May 2011, 04:08 PM
Thanks a lot Pavel and budley.
I suppose you're right, I will try to work on it a bit more but I'm very busy these last days.
05 May 2011, 03:44 PM
Last update for final image, very few time until deadline and too many things to do.
05 May 2011, 05:26 PM
Cool updates. I specially like the workflow sheet , really great. (me voy a robar una que otra idea para la mia :D)
Waiting for your finale and ready for the celebration beer ... and tequila!! ... :D
05 May 2011, 07:17 AM
Thank you Ferx.
I'm so glad you like it. Feel free to take the ideas you like.
05 May 2011, 10:08 AM
All those characters, I moan if I have to paint more than 3 in a piece! I agree it needs a little more haze for depth but it's going well, hope you get all the sheets finished in time - good luck!
05 May 2011, 06:55 AM
Thank you BaronImpossible
I'm afraid I have no more time to improve it, I'm a bit dissapointed because I was not able to give the image the depth you talked about, some more people has told me the same.
I'll try to next time.
(Anyway you can be sure your image doesn't need any other character, it's perfect like that)
Well, game over. I've been so proud of join this challenge, I've enjoyed and learned a lot.
Thanks so much to everybody for your advices and support. I'll raise some jars for you all, cheers.
05 May 2011, 08:41 PM
An honor to participate by your side in this challenge my friend :buttrock:Hope you have time in the future to finish this great concept with calm :) Cheers!! (con unas cañas bien frías :D)
