The God/Goddess of Progenesis
The God/Goddess of Progenesis can be seen as a contingency plan to ensure life never dies out across the universe, even under the most catastrophic circumstances. Whenever there is a mass extinction event or a civilization is on the brink, or has destroyed itself, this god coalesces from the ruins, reconstructing itself from the collective remains and debris. As such, The God of Progenesis takes on many forms in it's various reincarnations, but each shares a common attribute in it's ability to create life from death and decay. It is powerful in form and function but peaceful, if not ambivalent, in approach and action.
Once born it wanders the aftermath, be it the decimated fields of war or the scorched plains of a dying planet, sampling and absorbing any particles of matter found. This is the dust of war and destruction, the detritus of the long dead, the cells from rotting flesh of the newly fallen, sparking isotopes and shining specks of machine men, sand from razed civilizations; all is drawn in and reduced to their most basic elemental forms.
It uses a large reactor from within to power turbines and create a gale force vacuum that draws in particulate matter from the surrounding area onto it's collecting plate. In this manner all material is combined: flesh, blood, bone, metal, stone, and crystal. Even simple molecules of protein and energy contribute to the chaotic pot of genetic soup used to manufacture seeds of life inside the God's internal catalyst. Once produced, these seeds travel from the reactor, flow through the body and deposit themselves inside tiny embryonic sacs embedded in the Gods skin. With each seed deposited, a larva forms and will continue to grow until it reaches maturity. Depending on the conditions and manner of genetic material collected via this process, a large selection of races can be created. These larva form alongside one another on the titan's back as they, each in turn, develop a unique evolutionary line.
Beset with this gift the God of Progenisis travels the planets and chasms of space; a timeless beast of burden ferrying new life across the galaxies. Along its journey, the god will deposit these seed races when both conditions of a particular environment and the state of larva are in concurrence. It is in this manner the titan is able to reproduce a vast pantheon of sentient life: behemoths of stone, fantastical beings of light and crackling plasma, cognizant machine races, great floating gaseous beasts, and terrestrial bipedal creatures of flesh and bone, among others.
As miraculous a gift it is, a toll has to be paid by the god. As the the larva grow, finally born to lead their own existence and form consciousness, they take with them a percentage of the precious resources shared between god and progeny. Along its tireless journey, and as countless larva are born, bred, and shed off its back, the titan becomes increasingly weary with each new birth.
After the last embryo sac is formed, and the larva birthed, it's host god is stripped of any remaining nutrients and left with little energy. With the God of Progenisis's task fulfilled, and with its remaining strength, it finds solace on an isolated planet or moon and ends its days a dry husk. As this form of the body dies its essence disperses across the universe and lays dormant, awaiting the eventual apocalyptic event that will trigger its re-awakening. At this inevitable time the God of Progenesis will arise again, forever bound amongst the stars, to begin the cycle anew.

I'm working on the description at the moment and playing around with visual concepts. It's going to be a mesh of machine and flesh. For now here is the basic concept.
The basic concept is a god that creates life from destruction and decay. Embryonic sacs carried, or grown, from it's back house various "larval" life forms that hatch once maturity is reached. The god travels the universe and seeds planets with this new life.
Upon finding a suitable habitat and ensuring the embryo has reached full maturation, individual sacs are deposited and hatched, producing a life form which has a chance of producing a viable and sustainable race.
Drawings: Mechanical versions mixed in with one more organic type.

Updated sketch ideas.
Also I have decided on a name. I was playing around with rebirth, genesis, provenance, origin, resurrection, etc...I tried mashing up Provenance and Genesis, into Progenesis. It sounded like it might be a real word and, serendipitously, its meaning matches my basic concept and idea fairly closely.
So it is God/Goddess of Progenesis.
Will add text tonight along with some more organic sketches.

From those sketches It looks to me like he could be god of possessions or god of travel, just my two cents.

I'm going to run with something akin to these two drawings. Design is still not set in stone but I'm happy with the progress. The left arm specifically is exactly what I want so I might do some modeling of that just to change things up a bit. I will also need to do some 3D roughing in zbrush to get body proportions and silhouette designs worked out. Need to get that feeling of weight in the embryos and burden pressing on back and shoulders.

The character is dying for something to drag on the floor as it walks. I don't know what but the whole pose and character express "misery". Definitely drag something on the floor. Perhaps his dead goddess?

I really like you concept, the best so far.
It has that creepy kind of mysterious style you donít see around enough, in my opinion any way.
Sorry I donít have any advice or anything, other than to say that what youíre doing is working, at least on me.
And also that it reminds me a little of the style of Tsutomu Nihei while being totally different at the same time.
Looking forward to seeing how you move forward.

Digiegg: Misery is definatly part of its existence so hopefully it's something that I can translate to 3D. There is no other goddess though, i just haven't decided if it's a god or goddess yet..I'm hoping I can pull off something a little androgynous.

I really really really love this idea, that said, I imagined it a bit more nurturing or maternal. I love the concept of the pregnant belly that holds the potential life, but the face and pose should just be more assuring and comforting. Just my 2 cents, looking forwards to this tread progressing.

I love the feeling of torment and fragility in this design. It gives off a sense as if this god doesn't even have control of the happenings around him/her. Very dark. Very creepy. Very good design. I really enjoy this piece and look forward to seeing its completion! Good luck!

Salki: ty for catching that, the initial concept I had in mind for the face had just those attributes but it wasn't really coming across in the initial sketches. Check out the face detail below.

slightly sadder version (<3 liquify brush)
This one is a little closer to the original imagery I had in mind for the face. (Based off of a quick (and crappy) face sketch I did the first few days.) It's supposed to be a cross between a fragmented stone idol and a tiresome, aged and caring old woman/man. Mechanical pieces serve to move the various flesh/stone bits. I think the jawbone might be partially exposed.
I guess the closest thing to describe the frills behind her face would be a collection of adjustable solar panels, but they work with twilight starlight instead of direct sunlight. (Technically the sun is a star, yes i know..but whatever..to me, it's more poetic with starlight.) During times of respite, she turns her face to the stars and in this manner 'feeds' energy to the embryos. The frills lay along the neck when she's at ease/relaxed. When she's frightened, agitated, or on alert.. the frills fan out around her face.

wow man, the look and art style of this seems really fresh and other worldly, i can't wait to see it in 3d. my only input is to maintain the odd quality all the way through.

great silhouette. like the bulky top and the thin legs a lot. face looks also promising. maybe a bit too human right now with this small eyes. the big eyes in some of your sketches made him more unique...

it's great concept so far, it's just I find it . . . creepy. based on your story it does make sense somehow if you make it this way, cant wait for another update !

This is quite a unique concept with great potential.
I like the thin legs but it also makes it look too frail and weak. I keep seeing it trip, loose balance and splattering on some rocks.
Maybe you can bulk them up just a bit or enlarge the feet and calf area to give it a more sturdy or solid base.
I still like it, even if you don't change anything.

Oh wow, very strong concept/story.
I also love your organic drawings, If you can do the same in 3D this character will look very nice.
His legs are indeed thin but I have the same problem with my character and I dont really want to change the silhouette of the legs (though it would be more realistic) but luckily I could just make mine fly if I can't come up with a better idea.
Maybe you could put more importance on the walkstick he uses to keep his balance, because I like his legs ^^

So..I finally had a chance to work on a bit of the high poly this week. I don't foresee getting enough time for a finished entry, but I'll try to do as much as I can with the little time left as I'm really enjoying working on this one. If I can get a rough high poly and a few passes of color established I'll be a happy camper.

This is looking sick! I particularly enjoy the randomness of the neckpiece. Nice expression on the face. Yea if you can't finish in time you should still work it afterwords. That whole real life thing really gets in the way of all the fun!
