View Full Version : normals follow camera?

Lemme start this off by saying I am very "noob" with mel in maya. I have been working on a previs project, and was curious if there was a way to create a "card" object, something like a tree with an alpha channel so only the tree is visible on the maya plane that could follow a cameras movement throughout the viewport? in other words connect the planes normal to align with a designated camera, much like a dynamic sprite? Any help would be great.

are you talking about having the plane as camera facing, if so you could just use a aimConstraint

That technique/effect is also known as "BillBoards" or "Billboarding". You can use constraints if you always want them to directly point at the camera center, or you can simply make them have the same rotation as the given camera. both methods do essentially the same thing, but have subtle differences. check out this old post:
