View Full Version : UDK Result - Mental Asylum

Hey guys!

Over the last couple of weeks we had to create something playable in UDK. So I figured, why not create a mental asylum. And here is the result :) Been a while since I attempted art, I'm contracted as a programmer so it's been a while :(

All content has been created from scratch in 2 weeks. Sorry for the dark shots, hope they're better on your screens (they were better on my laptop so I hope it's just my screen).

As some wise guy once said, hope u like :) Any feedback is welcome!

look good, but I can't help but feel as if vasaline has been smeared on the "lens" are you using some kind of bloom in that scene?

Yeah, I guess it's a bit overdone, heh. I've been working on an overbright laptop (and at night) which gives me a completely different result on other screens, as I feared. I'll brighten up the shots and tone down the bloom a bit ;)

You shouldn't be working in a darkened room, thats well bad for your eyes...

Anyway, love the setting you have created, its full of realistic textures and it has a really eriee feel to it. Of course, as you already know, you should brighten up the shots abit but, I was wondering if there would be anyway of adding more dynamic light. I personally feel that if the light was a bit stronger in the scenes, enough to create stronger looking rays so that dust would be seen in the air for instance, a lot more of the detail you have worked in would be more visible.

Other than that, I think these are some really strong designs but I wouldn't have guessed they were set in a mental asylum by just looking at them. How about adding some more visual clues in to the mix? Say a bed that has straps on it to hold down patients? Or how about those windows that you see in hospitals?

Like this: It has a very specific look to it.

I think you have done a really wonderful job though and keep playing with the art!

I will for sure be working on this once I get a little more free time on my hands, it's been quite hectic lately with all kinds of projects :( I'll update when I have some new shots!

You may find this useful too.

A forum of people that go around abandoned buildings, taking photo's and exploring,quite a hobby...

Probably be a great source of other assets and things to make it more eerie.

definitely need brighter textures ;)

It is betetr to have brighter textures so that u can gain darkness with lighitng.
