Thanks everyone. Here's an update. I'm pulling my hair out trying to get this finished by the 7th though.... anyone else worried about finishing before the due date??!

Maps shown here are color, dispFine, dispMedium. I've done some test renders in maya with several more maps though (spec, specRoughness, Glossiness, Reflect...)

We will be picking some finalists on the closing day and will then give them some extra time to polish, render etc. The standard of work so far has been amazing. Keep it up!!!

Tentacles could use a darker color on the underside to counter the SSS but hey - looks freakin' cool.

Looks great. I guess being nit picky there is some texture stretching in the disp at the top of the tentacles, and I'd probably put some creasing into the leather on the goggles.

But then again... :)

Thanks guys! Yes i noticed the stretching and there is heaps more that can be done to him. Be as nit picky as you want, it only makes him better! I had thought about making the underside of his tentacles darker but something just felt more natural and organic about keeping them lighter. Like they weren't getting as exposed to sun as the rest of the head. I suppose I could push the SSS backscatter weight a bit more. I'll give the darker underside a try though. Thanks!

Looks great! Nice job.

Not that it counts at this point anyway since the competition is already over, but I had more render that came through after deadline and I'd thought I'd post it anyway, as well as the other two I put up yesterday.
