View Full Version : Ilomilo/Mario Galaxy's unique lighting?

I've been trying to achieve the kind of lighting like in Ilomilo but I can't figure out how to get that constant rim-lit edge look. It's very similar to the way Super Mario Galaxy is lit.

Maybe it even has something to do with the shader?
Any help achieving something similar to Ilomilo's lighting what be greatly appreciated!

Which software are you using? I'm assuming Maya, because that's what your portfolio has.

To create that effect in Maya it's actually very simple.

1. Create a ramp.
2. Create a samplerInfo Node
3. Connect the samplerInfo node's facing ratio into the ramp's V coord.
4. Attach the ramp to either the incandescence slot of a material.

Yes I am using maya. Thanks for the help i'll try it as soon as I get home. I assume after this point it's just cleverly setting up lights to get that almost over-exposed pastel/diffused look?
