We are currently seeking a Visual Development Artist (https://careers.disneyanimation.com/job_groups/job_description?id=70) to join the Talent Development program at our Burbank, CA studios.
The Talent Development Artist Program is available for recent graduates of undergraduate or graduate programs (within three years of graduation date) for a 3 or 6 month paid position at Walt Disney Animation Studios. The Talent Development Artist Program offers a chance to understand the depth of your new skills, refine and strengthen key areas, and apply your talents in our real world environment. Under the guidance of a Disney Mentor you will be immersed in our world of art and technology while being trained on production work-flows and tools.

Visual Development Artists
Visually explore a concept, which may include Character Design and/or Environment Design for animated films, shorts and special projects. Visual Development Artists will experiment with the diverse elements of film presentation to manipulate dramatic story moments, plot thrusts, moods, character conflict and place-time motifs to capture the emotional connection to the story's theme. A rich imagination, a sense of caricature and design, strong color sense, a mastery of human and animal anatomy, architecture, the ability to work in different mediums and the versatility to conceptualize visually in a variety of techniques are required. Children's book illustration, fine art and/or illustration skills are a plus.
Create a variety of concept designs and exploratory pieces to drive the creation of the world and story
Apply knowledge and execution of the artistic principles, specifically demonstrating strong cinematic influence
Collaborate and take direction from Art Directors to yield creative imagery pertinent to the director’s vision
Participate as a team member providing creative ideas and art to inspire the pipeline and story
Bachelors degree in Animation, Fine Art, related field or equivalent experience desired
Strong knowledge of the artistic principles, such as anatomy, color and composition
Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills and a good eye required
Proven ability to be detail oriented and to work efficiently within a production environment
Must be able to work in a collaborative environment, taking direction from the Art Director and Director(s) as necessary
