View Full Version : There is something evil in my ocean..

12-26-2010, 03:51 AM
I'm new to Vue and have been trying to render out just an ocean.

I've tried it loads every time i get wired artefacts in the water, like there is a ground plane, but there isn't cos i tried lowering and even deleting it?!

I'm going nuts and was wondering if someone knows where i'm going wrong?

Please zip the scene file and upload.

Have you tried another water material? To me this looks a bit like foam, some meta water materials have built that in.

I heard that this is an 8.5 issue. Bummer, must save up for 9 i think..

I read that too from Bruno, after I wrote my comment here. I still would try another water material to see whether this changes something. Sometimes it just needs a bit of workaround, not directly a new version. Even when 9 is a good one, I must say.

I tried 20 materials, altitudes, disabled foam even made black ref materials to check refractions. These artifacts stay :(

Well, I guess material #21... Nah, joking. In this case it is worth to pack the scene file and send it to e-on (and us maybe). To maybe find the reason - and whether it works better in 9.

If you want help, zip the file and upload it.

Sorry for the delay, here is the file..

I have started again and remade the scene slightly differently many many times now and always get the same thing. In an animation it's terrible, looking like there is a white floor there..

It seems, I cannot reproduce the problem here. I have used Vue9 xstream 64 bit with the ultra render quality setting on Mac OSX with ATI Radeon X1900 XT graphics card.

So i need to buy ver 9. Nice..

And this image on eon's website-

What do you recon the story is here mostly done in vue or heavily photoshopped?

Depending on the version ? I don't think so, because I used oceans since Vue 6.
for example:
Also the boat seems doable in Vue, only maybe some spray around the boat would be easier in another program.

It's not the water texture. I narrowed it down to the displaced water surface setting when you edit the sea object. When you edit the function, there are not any function nodes to view but there has to have been some created at some point and then deleted. Seems like the sea object got corrupted some how. If I add a node then the "artifacts", which are the result of some original function receipe disappear. I think if you just create a new sea object you will be fine. Since ChristianZ was able to load the scene in Vue9 and it doesn't show an issue...perhaps the sea object was created in Vue 9 and it won't work right in lower versions.

I tested your scene on 8.40-04 Studio.

I tried from scratch many times before i posted the file, i always had the artefacts.

I tried it on my friends computer, he has ver 8.0.

In 2 minutes i had ocean rendering without artefacts. It seems to be an 8.5 thing, bugger.

I guess I don't understand why your sea object doesn't have any function nodes viewable though it obviously is using them. Perhaps they are functions not available < 8.5
