View Full Version : ponytail dynamics

I've just been watching Kinematics 2 ( gnomon ) and Alex talks about making a ponytail using bones and a script called the Attribute Goal which allows some lag on joint rotations which looks good-but he does mention briefly using dynamics on spline handles to control the ponytail. This is the source of my question. How does one use spline handles to give a dynamic feeling to a ponytail?

I have seen a few tutes on the net but they don't involve using bones as such so if anyone has any ideas on this it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I haven't seen that dvd but I think he was probably talking about spline IK with dynamics on the controlling curve.

to setup an ik spline chain with softbodies:

create joint chain
add spline ik
auto create curve on
select curve, create soft body
bind skin

to do it with rigid:

create joint chain
add spline ik
auto create curve on
create clusters from each CV on curve
parent control cubes above each CV ( or every couple of 'em)
select cubes, create rigid bodies
bind skin

For the benefit of other users browsing for something similar I have manage to track down this tute-

Thanks zachgrachan for your quick response.
