View Full Version : Olis daily sketches
11 November 2010, 04:32 PM
i'm planning to make a new start in illustration (character design + concept art). After making websites for 8 years now, working as webdesigner dosen't thrill me anymore. So i have to practice a lot to improve my skills.
Would love to have some critics and tips from you guys!
PS: Please kick my ass if i'm not updating every day!

Hey there in CG Talk Space...
I'm starting my portfolio. Today i made the first rough concept sketches. I tried to find some ideas on vehicles (mainly military use) and was inspired by some insect pics. In this case of a sow bug...
Concept1 : A jump seat. Overall 72min in Photoshop.
I think this concept needs a little explenation. This seat is made for jet / space pilots. After emergency ejection of the plane the pilot will be protected from ground impact by the seat. The pilot will be enrolled in a ball like structure. Usefull for landing on planets without atmosphere where parachutes won't work.

This is my today update. Doodled around with the sow bug again. This is what happend...
No idea what that is. Came up with the idea, this might be landing platform or a solar power plant.
Maybe i find a useful explenation tomorrow.

Thanks a lot eilidh! Saw your sketchbook and was deeply impressed by your work.
Ok. this my todays update. I'm not completely satisfied with it. Something with the composition or coloring is still going wrong.

NP, oli :)
I like the latest one: very nice textures and colours. I think what it needs (and what is probably bugging you) is some luminosity variation. Right now it's basically all a medium/dark tone. By brightening the central section you can give it some extra punch and depth.

you were totally right. I tweaked it a bit now regardig light composition a lot better now. Thank you so much!
