Position: Character Artist
Supervisor: Lead Character Animator
Position Status: Full Time Employee
This position is responsible for designing, modeling and creating materials for 3D characters. The Character Artist is responsible for the overall aesthetics of the characters as they appear in the game as well as providing support to the animation team when needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Design characters based off written description and input from design team that fit within the overall aesthetic of the game.
Model characters which are aesthetically pleasing and optimized for animation.
Texture characters, including normal mapping as needed.
Model morph targets for animation.
Draw storyboards, environment, and prop designs as required.
Work with environment and animation teams to sync characters into scenes.
Support animation team when called upon.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Traditional art skills, including a solid understanding of anatomy and design.
Ability to design in a range of styles.
Expert knowledge of 3D Studio Max and Photoshop.
An understanding of facial anatomy as it relates to animation.
Ability to complete models and designs on a tight schedule.
Ability to communicate clearly with others.
Animation experience a plus.
Z-Brush or Mudbox experience a plus.
Education and Experience:
At least 3 years as a professional modeler or character artist.
Working portfolio that demonstrates required skills and abilities.
