Okay well im modeling a greek head sculpture, a bust...
and you know how they have that damn curly hair? sculpted curly hair, with tons and tons of curls, BIG hair with tons of short curls?
those damn greek boys , well how the heck can i pull this off with lightwave, without selling my soul to the devil?
I mean I COOOUUULD sundevide the top of the head and extrude/model every strand, but well you guys understand thats totaly crazy.

Extruding isn't totally crazy. If you really want it to look like a greek model, then you're already aware that even the sculptors bac then didn't chisel out every strand. They chiseled clumps of hair. Therefore, you could extrude 20-40 different clumps, working them individually, maximizing realism to the stone sculpture.

If you want every strand I recommend a hair program or designing a pixel filter.

Displacement map?

that's not totally crazy. :) short curls are relatively easy to xtrude

first, you'll have to sell your soul to the devil if you wanna excell at whatever you do (a simple fact of life :) )

second, greek boys didnt have the benefit of mirror function, nor the bones

while nowadays we can model the statue in total simmetry and deform it afterwards

however, the female statue yahll posted is more like a bump map over the simple geometry
