Hi there!

I need some help and advise on modelling the male figure. I've seen different ways for people to model the figure, the main one is only having simple edge loops around the shoulders and the rest is all more or less straight down (e.g Other ones have the topology circling the muscle groups.

When is it correct to use each technique?

I would like to have the topology good for animating.

This is what i have currently:

If i have anything wrong in the mesh, could someone please point it out to me?

Your help is very much appreciated!

Your topology is looking pretty correct so far. For the link you gave, I believe that was a basemesh used for Zbrush. So, for animating it the edgeloops should all have a destination like certain muscles and what not. You might want to add some more edgeloops to define some areas a bit better like the buttocks and abdominal muscles.

heres some examples of what some artists have done:

a bit more advanced:

but yeah, all in all its lookin' good, keep at it.

Thank you for replying. I've had another go at the model and i'm going to continue the topic in the work in progress section. I think it may be more appropriate.

Thank you for your time.

This dvd is a life saver cheap and fast way to learn how to get the typology right for rigging.

And looks awesome as well!!!

Some very talented artists at this website.

The edge loops on the shoulders of the posted examples won't animate well.

They don't follow the natural flow of real anatomy, and so won't move correctly.
