View Full Version : Model a Tumbleweed

Ok guys first off I want to put it out there right off the bat. I am a horrible modeler lol.... When we had to model ourselves in class I came out looking like E.T. in blue jeans.

Now onto the topic...

I am working on a logo, for an upcoming project. I am trying to get a solid idea on how I would model a tumbleweed...

I got some nice stock photos of some and tried to key them out, but they still look pretty bad in terms of artifacting. So my next guess was possibly paint-fx to poly.

I started with the Bramble preset in the Visor of Maya, and from a distance it looks like a tumbleweed...I guess.
But when you get up close it looks more like a bunch of tangled ribbon.

I'm pretty sure there has to be some other awesome ways to make a nice looking Tumbleweed, but I figured I would ask you guys before I drove myself crazy experimenting.

Any advice would be awesome. it does not have to be "photoreal" just look more organic than it is at the moment.
