View Full Version : How do i use textured self illumination - 3dsmax + mentalray

Hi there,

What i'm trying to re-create is a back-lit billboard. This is quite easy. But, what i want is that certain parts (text, lines and such) are illuminated and the rest stays dark or darker.

Look at this image.. very basic.

The sign behind the monitor needs to have the logo and text illuminated and the line figure. The rest (white area) should be dark or darker.

What i did is take a A&D material. Put the color map in diffuse. And use almost the same image (everything white is now black) in the filter spot in the self-illumination tab.

Any ideas how to achieve this effect.

Is was searching for tutorials and posts about this issue. But didn't find any. I don't have a proper description for it for google to find proper results i think.
