View Full Version : Sound to drive Animation in Maya

I'm using trapcode soundkeys, in After Effects, to keyframe values based on sound. These keys can be exported to Maya.

Soundkeys breaks audio into into about 27 frequency blocks, "ranges", and allows you to drive animation or set/export keyframes over time from the levels at those ranges.

Is there a way to do this with Maya, or maybe with Python, so that I could automate the process from within Maya? I'd like to import a wave file, for example, read the levels at various "frequencies" and use the various levels to drive values in Maya.

Google is your friend.

Thanks, sometimes we forget the obvious! But actually, none of these quite worked out. I happen to be on a Mac, that may limit me somewhat.

Maybe worth trying Duncan's plugin also.

I did this with Maya's audioWave node...
The node has a single output only so it is severely lacking. Here I cheated a bit and offset this output to make it look like it has frequencies.

BTW thanks for that link. Im going to send the build files to a friend of mine to see if he can port it over to OSX, might take sometime as he is a busy man. If it goes well though I am going to push the development further on this one where the other guy left off - point based audio deformer for example.

cool I will try to check it out. The vimeo won't load for me just now.

I have been looking at this, wondering if this can be used somehow:
