I'm jumping on board. I'm very busy, but I might spend some late night hours on this one. We'll see how far we can get.

My main objective is to pull off a nice bouncing bomb and dam breach animation.
I've already simulated the bouncing bomb using a long list of Thinking Particles' Dynamic Sets. It's all simulated according to real information (speed, height, angle, rpm, distance etc.)

Guess where I am going tomorrow? Two words: Mohne. Dam.

At the moment I'm doing some fluid simulations and recreated the area texture plate by looking at and overlaying various photographs taken right after the breach, combined with modern photographs.

AWESOME hopr to see the trip benefits :applause:

09-25-2010, 09:59 AM
Yeah it sure did benefit. I shot some awesome photographs and couldn't sleep at night because I saw all these scenes in my head. It was a 300 mile drive. I came through a hamlet called "Asshof". That made my day.

I've been drawing the storyboard last night, with all the shots that came to my mind when I couldn't sleep the night before. The dam is almost completely modeled and textured. Just a short update.

I just realized I didn't post any screenshots yet.
Here's the Mohne Dam I modeled and textured after tons of photographs I took on my trip over there. There are some little buildings at the bottom of the dam, but I'm not too sure if they will be in the video, so I'm leaving them out for now until my plan changes.

The background is just a placeholder for now.

I'm currently modeling the Lancaster.

Here's a screenshot of the Lancaster as a work in progress.

Just wanted to give you guys an update.
It still needs improvements, like some work on the fuselage, turret and bomb bay etc. Will work on that tomorrow and after that I'm off to finish the environment that's almost completely there already. The water simulations are as good as done.

EDIT: October 29th - This picture shows the model in its very early stages. (

Just letting you all know I'm still working on it.
This is just a one-man project and my daily schedule is packed with other projects that have their own deadline. But I'm getting there.

I'm anxiously waiting to see more from others too!

10-29-2010, 07:11 AM
Here's an update of mine. Just a couple of small screenshots. I've been working hard to make it to the deadline and it looks like I can make it. Just two more scene to finish. So no need to postpone the deadline (that wouldn't be fun either :p)

Hope you guys like it so far. The best is yet to come though.

really well done mate, I love it!

11-02-2010, 08:00 PM
very well done, the only thing was i felt the tracers are just not big/thick enough. but overall a great entry, and seems like it's gonna be a one man race :P

11-02-2010, 09:10 PM
Thanks Pierechod and Michael!

@Michael: I see what you mean. It was kinda hard to get the tracers to look convincing :)
I was expecting a lot more competition and still hope there will be more entries. So if any of the other candidates are reading this, please finish your entry and send it in! :D

11-05-2010, 03:00 PM
I'm still hoping for more entries in the challenge :wip:

Thought I'd upload some pictures of the Lancaster in the meantime.
