View Full Version : Wasp Droid, Emerpi (3D)

10 October 2003, 02:43 PM (

First: Sorry, my english is very poor ;)

It's my first serious artwork in 3D. Previously I created crap like boxes, thoruses, spheres :) I made this scene 3 months on vacation. Most used tool when I created this droid is boolean :)
I hope You like it.

<edited by Tito: Image replaced with one hosted on CGNetworks gallery to prevent dead links.>

Oh... I used Cinema 4D v.8.1

Booleans? that is amazing, and to say you made it in booleans is just frightening.

Wonderful picture!

10 October 2003, 03:45 PM
very well done:thumbsup:
I assume that the design is based on Feng Zu's images..

Edit: oops didn't see the text at the bottom of the image:blush:

10 October 2003, 05:52 PM
i really love this picture i like roboot render :D nice work

10 October 2003, 05:58 PM
great work!
I was actually gearing up to model that very same design! oh well....You did a great job with it. Nice lighting and textures as well. And It's nice to see some thought put into the layout and design of the final render. It has a nice balance and good continuity through out.

10 October 2003, 05:59 PM
really cool stuff and creative as well. i like the hands ..

10 October 2003, 10:49 PM
awesome work---amazing modeling, love the overall design.

10 October 2003, 10:50 PM
Animation....I say animation!!! :applause:

10 October 2003, 12:50 AM
i like  . kind of reminds me of the robot in the last episode in Animatrix

10 October 2003, 04:11 AM
Zajebista Robota : ) lol
Skad jestes z polski?

Sorry my polish is very poor man. I can't really read it or write it, so I just type the way I say it lol. Great work though, I can't say anything bad about it. Everytime I see something like this I get really cheesy that I bought C4D :)

10 October 2003, 04:18 AM
That is an Awesome picture. Really like the detail.
Great Job.

10 October 2003, 04:37 AM
What if those naked flames ignite the oil? Aren't you worried about that? That's a very situation you have those robots in. What if little kids from the US see this picture and feel encouraged to float around in oil soaked environments with flames jettting from their shoulder blades? You'll be sued for sure!

10 October 2003, 04:42 AM
Really nice work:applause:

The beauty of this post is that you actually admitted that this was your first attempt at a serious piece and you stated how long it took you. You took the mystery out of how great work is sometimes done.

Now I feel that I'm ready to perhaps take on such a task.

How do you go from making nothing but boxes and spheres, to this?? :surprised

My only real crit would be that it's a little too grainy for my taste, but whether you're a n00b or not, that is one sweet should be proud!

10 October 2003, 05:46 AM
yeah i noticed it was fengs sure we have all gazed at them in awe..... but u did it justice dood...would love to see that bad boy animated!:applause:

10 October 2003, 05:47 AM
Well done. Love the texturing

10 October 2003, 06:31 AM
wow! that s really fantastic ...
I like it!

10 October 2003, 06:34 AM
Three months of vacation?!? Where are you working?!
By the way, Awesome piece, Is the model made to be animated? Because if you haven't animated before either, than i'd love to see you take that to the same level as you're modeling!

im sure someone else did a model of these concept designs before and posted them up :S
Anyways, brilliant work!

10 October 2003, 07:01 AM
Seems like Feng Zhu is really famous these days :))):applause:

10 October 2003, 07:15 AM
Wow, cool!

10 October 2003, 07:26 AM
Good work man. I like it. I dont know but it seem kind of familiar with the bot from Animatrix , Matriculated part.:p No offence this is a decent work. ;)

10 October 2003, 08:43 AM
Dont believe that you modeled boxes and sphere only before this :D
Top notch !
Contrast seems a bit low. (May be because of lot of grain, bring it down)

10 October 2003, 08:47 AM

first real attempt? You should've seen my first attempt..

congrats man, with the plug

10 October 2003, 09:13 AM
i saw this model at Feng's website few months ago.
you deliver his concept design pretty well!!!
good stuff, dude.
it's working pretty good with environment.

congrats on plug!!

* actually, a friend of mine is working on the same design right now should let him know you already did.

10 October 2003, 09:33 AM
OMG!! What have those robots done to the warehouse! ;-)

Really nice robot design. I like the blueish lighting. :applause:

10 October 2003, 10:00 AM
The picture isn't seen. Fix it.

10 October 2003, 10:23 AM

Well, I usually have *at least* 3 months of vacation every year - call it unemployment - doesn't really feel like vacation though :annoyed: When you don't live in the right area then sometimes you doubt if you chose the right industrie, at least this is my case, though I love what I do... Can be pretty frustrating sometimes :hmm:
Sorry for this personal deviation - back on topic: can't see the image either ;)

10 October 2003, 12:42 PM

Thanks for all comments :) I'm very happy when I readed it

Some details:

Yes, I really made most elements by boolean. I'm newbie in 3D and boolean operations it's easier for me than polymodeling. I know, wire in this method is very bad, even if I used better boolean plugin.

Animation... Hmm... I would to see it in animation too, but scene it's too heavy for my hardware. This picture rendertime is 2 hours... BTW. Droid have a lot elements without any mechanical sense. It's very hard to animate it...

Yes, I'm from Poland, and I'm study (for that reason I have 3 months of vacation) :D

Hiehie... Flame & Oil add hold in suspense ;)

My warehouse it's based on these up, but my have a lot more details and textures ;)

OK. Here we go... (copy & paste these adresses into new window because this server do not support hotlinks)

And droid without background:

Thanks for all replies! It's motivate me to work with next scene

PS. Heh... Sometimes I don't understand myself when I write this post in english... Arghh

10 October 2003, 12:42 PM
To the broken links guys, it might be your firewall - mine is blocking it because of "hardcore" in the domain name.

10 October 2003, 12:46 PM
both pictures wont work

please fix it

10 October 2003, 12:53 PM
Try open it in new window or copy and paste adress into new window... I don't have any good working server :(

10 October 2003, 12:55 PM
nice work bud...keep it up.

10 October 2003, 01:11 PM
Nice job, im just starting to get into 3d stuff. What is Booleans? Anyway, i like the detail throughout. The factory is almost a peice in itself, the water and lighting effects are cool. Those plasma tanks on the wasps sides are also a nice touch. This peice looks very realistic. You should definitly do an animation if you have time.

10 October 2003, 01:50 PM
quick explanation of boolean

if you use cinema 4d
would be worth getting this

10 October 2003, 02:38 PM
both links do not work :-(

10 October 2003, 02:44 PM
they work fine here...anybody else have same problem?

10 October 2003, 02:57 PM
Modelled very nicely.
The enviornment looks well done  (I like when people pay attention to the enviornment)
Good work.

10 October 2003, 03:17 PM
I love it...very well thought out and presented.....and to think its booleans :P

10 October 2003, 03:25 PM
Just perdy man. Seriously good job. Composiion and all.

I tip my hat to you, now look into my eye

10 October 2003, 03:48 PM
I'd love to see it but again yet another webhost has put the kibosh on the file due to "Przykro nam, strona chwilowo nie działa z powodu przekroczenia godzinnego limitu transferu."

Which i can only assume means Bandwidth Limit Exceeded - or something to that effect...translators?!

Anyways if someone has some free space on there server if they wouldn't mind posting, it would be greatly appreciated looks good in the thumbnail...

The linked image gives me a "This image has been hotlinked pic" - I think, but then again it's in yet another language....

10 October 2003, 03:49 PM

10 October 2003, 04:04 PM
Clockwork, I get a mix of 404 and the "no hotlinking"(?) image too.

Damnit... It looks cool judging by the plug... Anyone up for hosting the images?

10 October 2003, 05:33 PM
Can't see it either--just get garbled page of text. But you peeked my curiosity. Anyone else want to host it?

10 October 2003, 06:13 PM

Thats amazing!

Thanks for posting commanche

10 October 2003, 06:30 PM
BTW, has Feng seen this? He just finished up design work for SW Ep3, so he'd probably be available to take a look.

10 October 2003, 07:52 PM

Sorry for all at that broken links. Free www servers in Poland suxx :(

Big thanx for Commanche for upload it to other server! Picture it's little too heavy compressed, but better than none :)

I mailed to Feng, but he din't reply for now :P

10 October 2003, 08:37 PM
none of the pictures load, and none of the links work . . .

10 October 2003, 10:49 PM
Feng Zhu is the reason i still draw, he makes most excellent work and so do you.:applause:

10 October 2003, 11:35 PM
Nice....i know that I've seen the original drawing......I'm curious to see the wireframes:)Please

10 October 2003, 11:54 PM
I kinda looks like the machines from Matriculated - The Animatrix

10 October 2003, 02:58 AM
Thanks for the link comanche.

This robot is great. Hard to believe that it was done without the use of extrude.

Does anyone care to host the wire image? I would like to see what a boolean wireframe can look like.

10 October 2003, 06:18 AM
Great job. from another C4D user I was just wondering if you mainly used textures or procedurals? Very well done!

10 October 2003, 11:33 AM
very good job,you creat it in 3 month???
my god~

10 October 2003, 12:39 PM
No patrzcie, Polak też potrafi ;).

Model fajniutki ale ja się najbardziej cieszę że nie schrzaniłeś tekstur jak to się najczęściej dzieje.

Gratuluję świetnej pracy. :)

10 October 2003, 10:33 AM
Great work - I got occasion to see what Cinema is capable, and this is really the good example. I would suggest move some levels sliders in Photoshop, some it could be more dark, spooky or whatever. Anyways:

10 October 2003, 11:15 AM
Very nice. I agree with Pinio about levels :)

Gratulacje

10 October 2003, 11:51 AM
Nice work on not only the bot, but the scene itself. Again another piece of art that does Feng's designs justice. I have no major gripes, maybe the noise level could be lessen a bit and since those flames seem mighty hot, adding some heat waves might be an interesting addition to the scene since it's so focus on the main character.

You have received the CGtalk choice award .Please feel free to display this image anywhere you like! Great work!

upon receiving this award, it guarantees you a spot in the cgtalk gallery hall of fame ( - which you are now placed
