any tips or tutorials you can share for modeling a motorcycle and tricks to model in side view only?

I've been modeling a motorcycle this past week and if you use maya you can build all the framework and pipes using cv or ep curve, tires are just torus, and most of the rest was extrudes.

Here's what mine looks like so far

thanks for that i use maya also. whats really bugging me is how do i know the depth or thickness of the bike with only one reference like a side view? by the way nice model work.

I would recommend drawing a top and front view orthographic to use as reference if you don't want to try and figure it out in 3D. It will speed things up in the long run.

I did model a concept bike with just a side drawing, but I sometimes like to create the design in 3D as I go. However, this is definitely not the fastest approach.

Just google refrence photos of the motorcycle you wish to model.. just to give you some sence of how it should look - and remember you can always change it, it doesn't have to fit it 1:1 :)

i'd like to model valentino rossi's yamaha yzr-m1. any tips on the workflow and topology for this?

Nice bike.
The seat you can model with splines, i've tried it - it works perfect,
but I mean only the leather part.
same as the tank, splines. (
look for some refrences in google, they should help you..
I recommend building the body with poly modeling.
