Hello, I need to create sand in 3ds max and lots of it. Im hoping to have and Extreme close up on the sand particles as they forum up into a mound.

My question is, would Krakatoa be able to create this effect?

Particles aren't really a good source for doing sand effects unless it's blowing in the wind for the simple reason that they have no physical size and don't interact. Back in '97 I had to do a "sand in an hourglass" effect and the best result I got was to create animated geometry to form the growing mound of sand. Clever use of textures and bump mapping will help sell the idea that it's a pile of sand, but emitting particles all over the surface sliding down is what really sold the look. So don't try to sim a bazillion particles all piling on top of each other - just cheat it.
