in Cinema4d there something called 'set point', where you can select points and change there p. at the sametime. For example changing all your points to 0 p. s there something similar in maya??

So far i did it manualy. But i got some strange results when mirroring.

typically when I need to mirror an object across a plane. I will Group the object (this sets its center point to 0,0,0 then CTRL + Shift + D for duplicate special. My personal setup for special duplicate flips across the XY Axis. Since that is the way I build. Then I can just ungroup, freeze transforms and delete history.

If you duplicate special as an Instance it will allow you to have the flipped (mirrored) side replicate any action that you do on the primary side and vice versa. But you will need to delete the object and use the above method to duplicate as a copy and not an instance before you Combine the objects and merge their vertices.

PS. the reason you can getting the merge down to a point is that you merge verices is set too high. Reduce the setting to remove this effect. a typical setting if you duplicated exactly across the plane is around 0.001 This should keep your points from merging down to a single point.
