Hello everyone. This is a small study of how to make heads from spheres, this method uses basic modeling tools can be applied to virtually any software.
Below is some testing. Two images of a new character I'm doing in Blender 2.52 and the render is a character made in blender 2.49, his head was made using this method.

ps. Sorry my english is very crap.

I tend to start my poly modeled heads from a sphere as well. However, I usually rotate the sphere so the poles become the ear area. I find this tends to give cleaner topology across the top of the head, and from there its fairly easy to build in the necessary edge loops to define the mouth, nose, and eye areas.

A little update.

I saw a similar method using Nurbs ball in maya 3.0. And I decided to apply the same idea but using polygons in blender.

Could you show us how did u made this head? I searched google and found some videos of creating a head using a sphere. Unfortunetly the videos showed a different way of creating it becouse the poles where in the ear area. Also u mentioned that you folowed a tutorial in mastering maya 3. Im still learning to create my first " good" head and that head tutorial is few words and 4-5 pictures so its VERY hard to folow for me.
