Please help.

I'm working on an animation where the coating of a pill "flakes off" at the edges and I'm not sure of which approach to take.

Model the flakes that make up the pill. Then turn the flakes into softbodies, but keep a copy of the flake as a goal. Make sure to add springs to you softbody so the flake stays together when it starts moving. Then create a field that will blow the flakes away from the pill. As long as the goal weights on the softbodies are 1, the flakes will stay put. Then you just have to animate the goal weights and the conserve, for the softbody particles. When the goal weight is below 1 the flakes will become affected by the field and start flying off.

this tutorial ( isnt exactly for a flaking effect but would be interesting for some added effect or for a totaly different approach :)
