View Full Version : MR Interior Lighting with Volumetric fog?

Hey everyone,
I have been doing some research lately into getting a clean interior lighting setup with light rays spilling into a window pane using Maya 2010 and Mental Ray. I am now easily able to setup a parti_volume environment and get good volumetric fog lighting with good occlusion for simple objects (the secret for me was that you must connect parti_volume at botht the material and volume custom shader nodes post Maya 2009).

However, when I use this same setup for spilling the light into a simple room with a window the volumetric fog effect does not cross the boundary into the room. I have seen this effect countless times in some other threads but I cannot get around this!

Any ideas?

hi ,

Have you tried checking the "auto volume" option on in the render settings ? . Its under the extra features dropdown menu .

Wow, THANK YOU! It's working great now! Such a simple little render feature had my head sore from the wall's counterforce...
