View Full Version : Sugar shader in Maya - HOW?

Good day everybody! I need help. Issue - i have to create 3d sugar letters in Maya and render them with Mental Ray. But i can't create realistic sugar shader ( without particles). Did somebody face this problem? May be somebody know where to find good tutorials.

help please and thanks for your time!

Depending on how realistic you need it, and what the sugar's shape looks like you can get away with tweaking a mia_material_x foggy glass preset and have decent results. I used it on sugar-cubes and it worked wonderfully. A bit of translucence helped, as well.

I would think of snow its pretty similar....check Autodesk s "TheArea" server there is a really good tutorial on snow shader (not just snowflakes but for snow cover) should be able to tweak it to look like a sugar...

check out the material part of the snow-tutorial on our webpage ( Its, as mentioned, made for snow, but I think it will work out great for sugar as well.
