View Full Version : Command-line and Render View outputs differ (2011)

I'm dying here.

Render 1: Render View

Render 2: Command Line

It seems there is a gamma flucuation between Render View (or Batch Render) and Command-line rendering. I've played with Color Management a bit and also read the ongoing thread, but I'm not pleased and have disabled it. I did not enable it before experiencing this problem. My goal is to have the Command-line output match that of the Render View.

My setup is a simple interior scene, Portal lights, Physical sun and sky, Photographic Exposure (gamma set to 2.2), and gamma correction nodes on textures (.454). Frame Buffer gamma is set to 1 and I'm rendering in 8-bit. When I render in 32-bit, I can at least adjust the gamma in post, but the output still does not match the Render View. I checked the Hypershade > Display > Color Management panel and both are set to linear, with Exposure and Contrast at 0.

as far as I understand the lens shader only works in the renderview, but this is true only of framebuffers with more than 8bits/channel.

Does the renderview image without the lens shader match the mayabatch ?

Thanks for the reply. I got busy and had to use a workaround. The output still does not match the Render View when I delete the lens shader or set its Gamma to 1.

This behavior is really strange and I would appreciate input from anyone who reads this, especially OS X users with Maya 2011.

It appears to be a gamma problem, but I realized that when I log into my machine's default user account and render via command line, the file output perfectly matches Render View, unlike my personal user account. Sounds like a preferences problem? I deleted them and created a default preferences folder. Still the same problem.

The dark image is rendered on my user account. The light (and correct) image is on the default user account. They are rendering the same file from different user accounts, each with default preferences folders. It's just a physical sky with simple lens shader. I've compared the render logs for each job and they're virtually identical.

Can any other OS X replicate this problem? Is there anything else (like the preferences folder) that my user account is reading and the default account is not?
