I started working on my first maya to zbrush project. I'm doing a bust of the actor Thomas Haden Church who a lot of people may know only as Sandman from spiderman 3 lol. I built the basemesh in maya it has around 3k polys and now im in zbrush at subdiv level 3.

I am currently working on the overall form as far as the underlying structures of the face as well as slowly starting to sculpt it to be more like the actor himself. This is my first real zbrush attempt so things are kinda slow while im learning all the tools. So far i've been using move, nudge, inflate, and smooth brushes.

just put together a new reference image, originally i was only using the front and side mugshot from the spiderman movie but now i have a whole bunch of them. this should help a ton especially since i havent had any 3/4 view reference until now.

heres an update of the current sculpt. he is at division level 4 at around 320,000 polys. im still far from being done with the low and mid level detail, i've been working on it a little at a time because i start to lose sight of things that are wrong when i've been staring an it for awhile. i'll notice something on a random person in life when i'm out and about and have been studying peoples facial features and muscle structure wherever i go. i've also started looking through anatomy references for the major facial muscles.

any comments or critiques are welcome.

thanks for pointing that out, the minute i double checked the ears i was like oh ya they are definately sitting too high. in this image the newer update version is on the left and the older one that you commented on is on the right. I tweaked the jaw, lowered his ears, re-did the nose, lowered the puffiness under his eyes some, and raised his cheekbones and pulled it in right under them a little more.

let me know if you guys think the left one is a step in the right direction over the right one.

We would if you decided to try to change something. Your far too cautious.

before you said this, I thought they were the same image... they are nearly identical. remember to push for extremes, and then pull it back if you need to. if you inch your way to the finish line you'll never get there.
