View Full Version : Shave and Haircut Shadow Matte

I'm having issues with the shadow matte option. I am trying to render a shadow pass. The render has two types of shadows: shadow cast by the hair, and self shadowing on the face. I just want the shadows cast by the hair to show up in the alpha, but what I get is the hair shadow being cut out by the face shadow. The attached pictures should explain this better.

I am rendering with maya software with a black surface shader on the mesh. I have one spot light to cast the hair shadow. The light doesn't have cast shadows on. I turned off cast and receive shadows in the mesh settings, but that didn't change anything.

If anyone has any solution, or even an alternative, I would be grateful to hear it. If all else fails, I can just create a polygon mesh in the shape of the hair and use the shadow cast by it instead.
