- The speed modelling challenges are open to everybody.
- In every challenge you will get a list of items. Pick one and try to model it as fast as possible. If you want, you can do all of them.
- Do not exceed the time limit of the challenge. If you're out of time and still haven't finished, post the unfinished model.
- If you finish before the time limit, spend the remaining time on refining and adding details to your model.
- Focus on modelling. Shading, lightning and "proper" rendering are optional (and thus not limited by time).
- Take as much time for reference hunting as you need.
- When posting your model make sure you post a wireframe of your model. (try to do more then one view of the model).
- You can do any challenge you want. The challenges are not closed when the SMC passes. If you fancy an older challenge, do that.
- For the concept items you have to create your own designs. If possible post the design images as well.

chocolate box, 30 min - 1 hour [not entirely sure how much time I used... Not more than an hour though. :applause:
Didn't use reference this time, just modelled away.
Could be a lot better, a lot actually. Screwed up the materials..... didn't have more time to fix it.

Guess I am still feeling my way with different modeling approaches, tried 3 different tries with this waste container.

Here's my submission. Standard nail clippers. I spent around half an hour trying to do polygon modeling on this one, failed.
Instead, I used nurbs for the long parts, booleans to cut through the pieces, then converted them to meshes for some edge tweaking and poly optimization. There were a lot of slivers around the round holes that have to be re-topologized, but I ran out of time.

Here's a simple green frog. Made in Maya in just under two hours, most of which was spent messing around with those tricky back legs.

I saw all your professional work, and was thinking if I'm able to take even part on that competition :s
I'am pretty new to 3d art, started 3ds max 9 or 10 days ago i think, its my first "real" 3d Program (sketchup before)
But its always good training and a good motivation to model something.
I took a very simple Barbecue, its my first speed modeling and i didnt know how much time i would need to do a simple model. Hope that is ok and i will try to take part on every competetion and hopefully do something better next time :P

modeling time: 50 mins
material and scene setup: 1 1/2 hour. mostly just autodesk materials with some tweaks and a subsurface scatter material for the shade. couldn't help myself, turned out pretty nice :)
render time: 7 mins

Looking good. Just try to include a wireframe of your model as well, so we can comment easier! My advice for you is just to keep modeling, use the items in this (or other) SMCs as little projects, that you do an hour a day. And keep posting the finished models, you'll get feedback and improve.
I'll try to get the new SMC posted either today or tomorrow. Happy modelling.

Thx, here is a wireframe picture, i properlty made it just too high poly for such a thing, lol
but there is no poly limit for it ^^
I will take some other tasks there and model them, I have a lot to model atm, but never can get enough of it :P
