View Full Version : Water problem

I have set up a scene in Vue and am happy with how everything is looking. The problem I am having is with the water though. I am creating a animation and the camera moves across a landscape before traveling down under the water. As the camera moves under the water all the landscape above appears to vanish. I had hoped to be able to see the landscape at first through the water and have this fade as the camera moves deeper.
Is this going to be a nightmare to do or could someone advise me of a relatively simple fix.
I am using vue 8.4

I had hope to be able to view the landscape above through the water. Any suggestions on this would be much appreciated.

I suggest to have another 'special variant for under the water view' for the same scene, but try some other params for the water. As what works for one circumstance could not be true for another... So you'll have one part for 'above-the-water' and another one for 'under-water' and just mix them in compose...

Thanks for the thoughts guys, I already checked out this tutorial but unfortunately it did not help with my problem. It was great at explaining the water set up but the problem I am suffering comes with being ablt to see through the water. I have been messing about a lot but I can only see through the water with the camera looking from above and the moment I go below the water this is not the case. I was wondering if reversing the normals might fix this which I will try tomorrow. That way I could have two set ups as suggested, one for when the camera is above the water and another for when the camera moves below.
Not certain if this is going to work though and so I may need to do the underwater part with maya as I understand what I am working with. I am certain there is going to be a parameter or simple couple of options that I need to change but unfortunately I have only just begun using Vue and am not sure if I will be able to suss this.
That said I will keep fidling untill the weekend to see if I can come up with a solution. If I do I will post my solution as I have not managed to find any advice for doing this.

Not in front of my workstation atm, but I dont suppose this is something as simple as an options setting (clipping/culling) -- I'll try and grab some time later today to look at it.
If all else fails, create a small water plane for your scene - esxport it and bring it back as an object instead of as an infinite water plane. Then it should be treated as a regular object and should interact w/your camera properly.
